DGL-4500 Wifi Performance
« on: March 20, 2011, 06:45:36 PM »

I am running DGL-4500 A2 FW:1.23NA and have been experiencing poor wifi performance's when streaming Netflix. Also too, when i tried to change the Channel Width: from 20 MHz to Auto. I have been getting numerous wifi drops when Channel Width is set to auto on fw:1.23na. other wifi devices are having connectivity issues when set to the auto mode. Is there some sort of method to get this streaming performance optimized for this router? or is this routers downgraded performance going down hill.

How far are you away from the router?
How are you connecting when you watch Netflix? Wired or Wireless?

Would try disableing Short GI and Extra Wireless protection and WISH.
I stream Netflix on my xbox just fine here. I don't use all this other stuff.

Literally the samsung bd-player c5600 is 4 feet away from the router's location. After countless reboots and cold re-boot and factory resets...it seems to be holding a constant connection and is now stable. Watching Netflix streams via Wifi. Would the Netflix streaming be degrading the routers performance. Not to mention that 20/40mhz channel width being set to auto will not hold a steady connection with any wireless device that is N compliant. It seems that there is a bug when that is switched to (auto). Only 20mhz channel width is constant, successful and stable.  The only thing that I got it to work successfully, was to leave (wish) enabled, and under Priority Classifiers is to make sure all three boxes is checked and enabled.

Possible that your setup and the player could be having an impact on the Auto settings and possibly needs to be specified at either 20 or 40Mhz. What frequency are you using 2.4 or 5Ghz?

Sounds like your on a fix for your system setup. Might save off the config to file for future use.
Is the router setup to give a static IP address to the player?
I presume your not using any Gaming or Gamefuel settings?

I have disabled " Enable Auto Channel Scan " function under: Basic > Wireless Settings. ...Yes, I have saved the configuration. However, I am noticing that the dlink dwa-130 wireless adapter just dropped connection when i enabled the (Auto) Channel Width settings from 20mhz to Auto. The router is not setup to give static ip to the devices....But i did setup a per device to have a static ip for example the samsung bd-player c6500 is set as static ip. Frequency I am using is Mixed G and N mode.

I would set the devices to Auto Obtain an IP address and set the router to reserve static IP addresses.

Ah yes, the static settings per device has been set up with dhcp reservation list, but still getting dropped connections with dwa-130 rev.E adapter, if Channel Width is set to Auto. I will also test out the auto settings while streaming Netflix while the auto settings is set to Auto.

Here is a what the log shows when i have enabled: "Channel Width" set to Auto.

Hmm...I'd like you to make contact with both of the moderators on here. Wondering if they could chime in on this set up and Auto channel not working.

It works if you set it to manual right?

I've been reading this thread and applying it to my situation.  I've set my computers up with static ip adresses.  Is there a way to do it with a ps3?

Hmm, first better to set it to WPA2 Only with AES. If your network can do it, no reason not to use it.

Second, I agree I would try turning off Short GI. It might lower your throughput, but if it lowers your error rate it will actually increase it overall.

Third, your signal levels are somewhat low. 38%? Do you get error rate and issues if you bring a laptop closer and connect at say. 60+% signal?

Yes, it works flawlessly when it is set to manual. If Enable Auto Channel Scan is checked it will drop the DWA-130E adapter connection. Wireless Channel is at 2.437 GHz - Ch 6 with Transmission Rate set to Best (automatic) and Channel Width 20 MHz.  Security mode is WPA-Personal and WPA Mode - Auto with Cipher Type as AES. I have had no problems with these settigs as so...working okay.

PS: 802.11 Band @ 2.4GHz and 802.11 Mode: Mixed 802.11n and 802.11g

Does this only happen when using a DWA-130E?
