Strange, I did everything for the wifi to work and the 5ghz radio was slower than the 2.4ghz. I followed the recommended settings from the forums but I was not successful. I am currently using the native firmware.

Do you know what is funniest? Now, after installing ddwrt and getting back to the original firmware, my wifi is 100% even on the smart connection.

Strange things happen ...

Edit: Some people are reporting connectivity problem with chromecast and ddwrt.

Interesting. Makes me wonder what the WRT devs are doing with the GPL and wireless drivers there. Seen posts about WRT not working at all on the 895L and 890L. I recently loaded up my 868L and couldn't get the recent build loaded. I had to be all the way back to initial release then upgrade to "Quarysg" build. He's been actively working on the 868L and 880L version there. So far not impressed with WRT on some of these routers...Wondering if theres been a spattering of bad builds.

Curious, have you tried the new 33772 version over there?

I followed the recommendation of their forum and installed v33555 as the most stable. For me it was a disaster :)

One thing I noticed with my 868L, I had to install the very first initial release, factory to WRT, then the save version of the webupgrade file on top of it, then upgraded to most current version of WRT. Wonder if that would provide any other experiences.

A word to the wise. DO NOT attempt to upgrade to 1.20 until they fix their QoS config issues. I spent two days and hour on the phone tech support today and they basically said that I would need purchase a new device. Also, I was finally able to downgrade to 1.10 and get my QoS settings back but when you use the config file to reload your settings, it clears your password. In my case, I use CAPTCHA so i finally figured out that I needed to leave my password entry blank but I still needed to add the CAPTCH entry as displayed. DLINK - please fix your problems instead of saying we need to purchase another device because the one we have is defective. The device is not defective, you are in the manor you releasing and supporting firmware updates. SHAME ON YOU!

Did you first apply the transitional v1.15 FW before applying the v1.20 FW.
Also did you do a factory reset and set up the v1.20 FW from scratch and NOT load any saved configuration files and set up QoS from scratch?

The FW update process is detailed and out lined.

What problems are you experiencing with QoS?

Hi furrynutz,

I did the 1.11 update per dlink instructions. i have never seen any 1.15 updates available.

I also did the factory resets as you described earlier in these posts. However, I was not able to update to 1.20 successfully (tech support even tried with me for about an hour today), only 1.11 was successful but even in 1.11 the QoS configs are not functional (i.e. you can not change the QoS settings and save them). You cant even turn off the QoS settings.

I am using windows 10 and I dont have a MAC to try it with. I noticed you were successful using a MAC/Safari from your earlier posts.

Oops, I had wrong version, v1.11b04 is the transitional version used before v1.20 which is included in the .zip file for v1.20.

I would give the process a try again, doing a factory reset and apply v1.11B04 then apply v1.20 using FF browser for Windows. Then do a factory reset. While the router resets, clear the FF browser caches, exit the browser then relaunch and set up the router from scratch. Do not load any saved config files.

Let us know how it goes...

Thank you. This process worked with exception that I had to load 1.20 in recovery mode in stead of standard router GUI. I now have 1.20 successfully installed and QoS settings are operational.

Awesome. Interesting about recovery mode.

Was there a message in the UI when you attempted to load v1.20 after v1.11?

What browser are you using currently?

Furry,
After the 1.11 firmware is installed, the UI detects the 1.20 firmware but if loaded through the interface it can sometimes mess up the router and they have to recover it.

The instructions in the file package were updated today to update v1.20 using the supplied file, not the interface.

Interesting that I got mine thru the UI.

So if the recovery mode is used, can't they go from say v1.10 directly to v1.20? Or does the v1.11B04 still needed?

In most cases it works.

I believe the techs have had them recover to 1.11 and then upload 1.20 (file, not interface) and it works.

OK.
I can confirm this was the case for me. However, my QoS settings are not modifiable now. Anyone know of a way to clear the QoS settings and start from scratch (other than using the UI)?
