D-Link, DWA-160 & Linux
« on: November 07, 2011, 02:37:02 PM »

I use both Linux, Ubuntu (current version Oneiric Ocelot v. 11.10) and Win7 64 bit). Surprisingly on the same hard disk drive.

I had my wifi card go down and I purchased the DWA-160 (USB connected) without knowing how well it might work in Linux. I had thought I saw it was +++ at LinuxQuestions.org's Hardware Compatibility Page (HCL), but I must have misread the entry.

It didn't matter, what so ever. I got the adapter home, plugged it in, while Ubuntu was up & running and presto-chango! It Just Worked. It even returned me to my wifi router without having to re-enter the password.

The install in Windows was almost as smooth, but I did have to re-enter the passcode into the Windows window, in order to get online. This was supposed to happen during software install, but for reasons I cannot grasp, that failed.
