Edit/change or see entered client list
« on: October 04, 2015, 06:16:43 PM »

DIR-890L HW:A1 FW 1.08
can't get reserved ipaddr's to stick - and names with (unknown) can't be changed - it makes believe you can save it, but then when you open it again, it was not saved.

Have noticed that the connected client list keeps changing the number of active clients - even when none have been removed.
Also not seeing specific devices that are showing up via network monitoring software.

Is there ANY way to get to the client list where we can see the mac addr, name, assigned ipaddr like we used to on older routers? Need to see both active and inactive - kinda important when you are assigning ipaddr's as there is currently no way to find the entered inactive ones. Have tried edits on osx 10.10.5 and win8.1 using FF, chrome and safari

The QOS simply doesn't work very well - and have given up on trying to use it because it ramdomly forgets the settings.

As I have said before, cool looking router but it's not a good choice for anyone wanting to manage their network. The frustrating thing is it has the potential but is simply not used. Guess I'm gonna have to check out open source for it - but the downside is I have to have another router to use while setting the open source one up.  For what we pay for this thing, the software should do what we need it to.

Anyone have suggestions on how to do the above with existing software?

The remote management tool is to basically see if the router is up and to reboot it - you can't change anything. It is not really "management".

Was a factory reset peformed then using FF, walk thru the set up wizard first, then go immediately into QoS and set the UP and Down link speeds that you pay for from your ISP? I found this same issue and noticed that if I walked thru the set up wizard after doing a factory reset and set up QoS, the settings would save.

D-Link is aware of the QoS issues and should be fixed in the next release. I hope.  ::)

I believe naming should work though when you select the reserve button, edit the IP address and type in a name then select Save and it will save the new changes...

Thanks for the update. Will wait for next release before doing yet another factory reset.

Will try the add for an existing client - a pain because it is a manual entry of MAC address - but if it works for the ones that can't be changed otherwise - it is a work around.

Guess there is still not anyway to see a list of assigned clients? Export as a txt or csv would be fine to start with.

Is there still a limit of 25 clients? A well connected home can easily have over 50 or 60 clients - already in mid 30's and looking into lighting and cameras and other stuff.

Btw- figured out we needed wireless range extenders to get wireless speeds up - we have stucco walls and they use wire mesh which affects signals. So anyone with stucco walls and not happy with wireless speeds should look into range extenders.

I do hope when they fix QOS there will be more assignable options and levels. The current model was fine for 8 years ago but is not good for now due to wide variety of devices we have today.
Thanks

Try the factory reset and set up wizard routine when you get a chance.

Regarding limits, 24 is the limit. I recommend to help you with devices and reservations, split up your devices in to two sections, ones that need router management and ones that do not. Most devices like printers, servers, scanners, controllers, NAS and phones don't need much router management and you can set up Static IP addresses on each device thats out side of the routers default IP address pool, 192.168.0.100 thr .199. For devices like game consoles and PCs and streaming devices that needs some router management like QoS, then they get it working well, can be assigned Reserved IP addresses:
 DHCP

Using Static IP addresses will help you recover some reservations that are needed. Not everyting needs to be reserved. Don't ask. I don't know why D-Link keeps a reservation cap on there routers. I just don't know.  :-\

Thanks for the suggestion.
So, even doing that (manually assign basic devices an ipaddr outside the range for the dhcp pool) and only reserving ipaddr's for traffic generating devices means only 24 devices will show up?

It would be nice to at least be able to see two lists of clients - those being managed with dhcp and those not being managed.

But I might as well wish for the ability to transport home by click my heels together 3 times - suspect that will happen before D-Link pulls it's head out and stop thinking it's 20 years ago.

As usual, thanks for your wise words.

I believe both reserved and static devices, when ON and connected will show up in the list.

LOL, ya, there hanging on to the limitation for some reason. I don't know.

Static addressing ON devices will help though.  ;)

I've had the D-LInk DIR-890L set up for almost 24 hours now.  Initially, I was able to change device names / assign (reserve) IP addresses and SAVE without any issues.  Now, when I try and change device names / IP addresses, it will not save it.  Also, any devices I move in / out of QoS are not saving.

I have the latest firmware installed.

I'm planning on doing a FACTORY RESET later this afternoon and setting up the D-Link DIR-890L via the Set Up Wizard.  Hopefully I can rename devices and reserve IP addresses for any devices in my home network that I had reserved when using the DGL-5500.  I'll be back and post my experience later this evening.

I really like the router.....hoping D-Link can work out a few of the "bugs" soon.

YES this is a bug and D-Link is aware of it. I hope it will be fixed in the next FW update.

I reset the D-LInk DIR-890L to factory settings, and set it [DIR-890L} up using the Set Up Wizard via (ethernet cable connected directly from my iMac to the DIR-890L / ethernet cable connected from INTERNET PORT to the Motorola cable modem).  The Set Up Wizard worked well and I had no issues.   :)

I set up IP address reservations for some of the devices in my home network prior to changing from the default Wi-Fi settings.  All reserved IP addresses were saved without any problems.  I was able to drag devices to open QoS boxes and SAVE, but it didn't keep the devices in the QoS boxes.  I changed the default WiFi settings to my personal WiFi settings, and all devices with reserved IP addresses connected without any issues.  I once again tried to drag devices to empty QoS boxes and SAVE, but it didn't keep the devices in the QoS boxes.

On Friday, during the very first DIR-890L set up process, I was able to drag one device (MacBook Pro Retina) to the QoS box and actually SAVE it.  Not sure how that happened, or why it happened.  It actually worked like it's suppose to.   :o  Interestingly, I believe I only had my iMac and MBP Retina connected to the 890L (no other devices - wired or wireless).  I'm wondering if that might have something to do with why it saved in QoS  ???

Overall, I'm very happy with the performance of the DIR-890L  ;D  Definitely an upgrade from the DGL-5500 IMO.   ;)

Looking forward to the next Firmware update, and if you come across any beta firmware, let me know and I'll be sure to help test it out  ;)

Ya this is a known issue. I hope it will be fixed in the next release. It seems that if you do a factory reset, walk thru the set up wizard, go in and set up QoS and set up reservations, this will be enabled, then sometime afterwards, the function stops. I've notified D-Link about it.

I'm going to perform another factory reset and load my current "saved configuration", in hopes that I can at least get a few devices in QoS before it decides to "give out"  ;D

I'm wondering, do you think having a "wired" connection to the 890L makes a difference with QoS and being able to SAVE devices to QoS?  I might give that a try (if someone hasn't already tried that).   ???
