Author Topic: Xbox360 hides folder contents if a file has a "&" symbol in the name  (Read 3292 times)

I had a few files that had the "&" symbol in the name. The whole folder contents would just show up as empty on my Xbox 360. As soon as I renamed the "&" to "and" the files started to show - no refresh needed.

Wtf?

Is this fixable? When?
Are there more symbols with this same issue?

This is not an issue for anything else, PC's see the files just fine.

Do the folders contain other supported files that do not contain the "&" symbol? The Xbox and other media streamers such as our DSM-750 will not show a folder if it does not see supported files in it. As for the issue with not seeing files with "&" I will have to look into this issue I believe I have herd about this in the past somewhat. I will test it out.

Did you read my post?

The SECOND I removed the "&" from the file, the whole folder showed up.

Last post in this thread states the same thing that happens

http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=4151.msg24395#msg24395

The xbox (or the upnp service?)doesn't like special characters. When it finds a filename with a special charachter in it it bails on the contents of that entire folder not just that file. I can verify this happends on mine. Aside from the post above i believe there have been many other posts that confirm this.
