Internet access lost from time to time
« on: August 08, 2012, 03:49:16 PM »

Hello,

I have a DIR-827 Firmware 1.02 on which I have some connectivity problem from time to time. What happen is that i power up my computer and notice that "there is no internet connectivity". Since i'm on DHCP i've tried to do an ip release / renew (on my computer) but no change. The only way i can solve the problem is if i manually reset the router or log into the router and on the Wan setting do a release/renew. After doing this everything came back online.

Is it a problem with the router or is it cause by my internet provider ?

Link>Welcome!

What region are you located?
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
Double NAT
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.
If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1.
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

My ISP Service is Cable and the modem is a Motorola SB6120 without built in router. All my IP were already reserved into the router but i did not disable the QoS. All the other setting were already setup this way.

What i don't understand is when it happen i log into the router and take a look at the Wan Status/Setting and everything seems ok. I thought that it could be a DNS problem but the DNS are the good one. Anyway I've just plugged back my DIR-827 with the QoS disabled and I'll see if the problem will occur again.

Thanks

Whats your ISP Link speed UP and Down? If your uplink is higher than 2Mb, it's recommended to disable QoS.
Keep us posted.

Sorry i was not home yesterday. So I just went back home today and right after booting my computer i had the same issue. I got the widows message saying that there was no internet connectivity. I've logged into the router and everything seems fine. Reboot the router and then it works just fine.

My Cable connection is 30 Down, 2 up.
