Title: Windows 7 - Home Premium, DSM-520 "Unable to open file" error
Post by: simoncutting on January 28, 2010, 01:30:08 PM
I recently added a new PC running Windows 7 and I have both created new content and migrated existing content to it from a Windows XP PC that is working like a champ with Windows Media Player  service and the DSM-520.  When trying to play files from the Windows 7 PC on the DSM-520 I get an "Unable to open file" error when I try to play some avi movie files, but not all of them.  Music mp3 files play fine.  I do see an error in the Windows 7 System event log:

The Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service cannot process the request for URI 'http://192.168.1.118:10243/WMPNSSv4/1502456120/ezg4MkIxRTQ1LTk1MzgtNENFMC05NzdDLTA0QjJBNkRCRDI4MX0uMC5GNjRGNTIzMw.mpg?formatID=31' from IP address '192.168.1.101' due to error '0xc00d1967'.

Unfortunately error c00d1967 is not documented anywhere.  I've been over the file permissions with a fine toothed comb and they seem fine.

I'm not sure what thats but I know for a fact that it works fine together. Are you running anti-virus or personal firewall software on the PC?

No anti-virus software running.  I dropped the firewall completely and tried again but got the same result in the Windows system log -

The Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service cannot process the request for URI 'http://192.168.1.108:10243/WMPNSSv4/1502456120/e0RCMzU3RUY1LTRFN0MtNEMzQS04OEU2LTBGRjk0RTE1Q0E2Qn0uMC42QTdDNTVDQQ.mpg?formatID=33' from IP address '192.168.1.105' due to error '0xc00d1967'.

Just noticed something significant about this error and all the previous errors in the log - none of them are for .avi files.  The error below is for an mpg file, but I selected an avi file to play.

The Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service cannot process the request for URI 'http://192.168.1.108:10243/WMPNSSv4/1502456120/e0RCMzU3RUY1LTRFN0MtNEMzQS04OEU2LTBGRjk0RTE1Q0E2Qn0uMC42QTdDNTVDQQ.mpg?formatID=33' from IP address '192.168.1.105' due to error '0xc00d1967'.

Make sure the DSM-520 is an allowed device in WMP12 to share content to.

Just to reiterate:
- I am using Windows Media Server (not the D-Link server)
- the DSM can successfully stream *all* my mp3 and avi files from my Windows XP server
- the DSM can successfully stream *all* mp3 files (from a collection of several thousand) and a small number of .avi files (from a collection of several hundred) from the Windows 7 computer.
- the DSM gives an "Unable to open file" error on *most* avi files

- media sharing is enabled
- I dropped the firewall but it made no difference to the error
- the error in the Windows system log ('0xc00d1967') is logged for a *different* file extension to the file I requested through the DSM (in the error posted here is for a file with an *mpg* extension *not* avi)
- if I paste the URL from the Windows error log into a browser I get a 404 (not found) HTTP error
