Router needs reboot every 1-2 days
« on: April 26, 2011, 03:11:12 PM »

I'm running the latest firmware (1.21NA) for my DIR-855 and I have to reboot it every 1 to 2 days.  It just stops passing traffic.  When it's in this hung state, if I cycle through the display on the router until I get to the device status section and select it, it reboots itself.

Help please?

Thanks,
-B

What is your ISP service? Cable or DSL?
What is your ISP modem? Stand alone or built in router?
How are you connecting to the router? WiFi or Wired?
If WiFi, what wireless modes are you using? Mixed? Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
Any other WiFi in the area?
Any house cordless phones?

Verizon FIOS - plugs straight into the D-Link router.
I'm connecting both wired and wirelessly - doesn't matter, as the router stops passing traffic of all types.
I am using mixed - I could try straight G or N (but shouldn't have to).
There are a few other WIFI in the area, as with most civilized outposts ;)
We do have Siemens Gigaset 8845 cordless phones in the house - 2.4GHZ
I don't experience interference - the router hangs and has to be rebooted.

Thanks,

Cordless phones at 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz can effect how routers function on these frequencies.
I would start off with ALL devices OFF accept for one and test if you can try this.
change the WiFi from Mixed to Single mode N at 5Ghz only or Single mode G at 2.4 Ghz and fully unplug the cordless phone to test.

Can you set up static IP addressing for your devices on the router. Ensure devices are set up for auto obtain IP addressing. In sure DNS is being auto filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn off Proctected Wifi.
Turn off QoS
Turn off Advanced DNS Service if you have this option.
Turn ON DNS relay.
Is uPnP on?

What kinds of devices are you connecting to the router?
