I am not sure what has happened all of the sudden. A couple of nights ago I noticed everyone of our families ipads and iphones started dropping wireless and reconnecting every 10 to 15 seconds on 2.4Ghz connection. No issues with the laptops until I checked the speeds both up and down. 5Ghz gives me my 15Mbps down and 2.3Mbs up but 2.4Ghz is only giving me .5Mbps down and .4Mbps up. I have tried every channel, restored settings, turned off stream boost, went to 20mhz only, set to WPA,WPA2 only with AES and zero improvement. I have zero competing signals in the area. Nothing has changed. This seems me to be a router failure of the 2.4Ghz channel unless someone has some other ideas. After all the issues with the DGL-4500 I am really loosing faith in Dlink products.

Thanks

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?

What issues did you have with the 4500? Anything similar to this issue with the 5500? If do, could be something in your area. The 4500 is one of the most stable routers I and others have used.

What happens if you turn OFF all wireless devices and test with just one?

How is the 5500 router place? in a well ventilated area?
Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

  • Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by?

Cable, Rock Solid speeds when hooked directly through Motorola Cable Modem 6121
Telstar Internet
14.9Mbps Down 2.3Mbps Up
Router Hardware version A1
Dynamic IP

No cordless phones and no neighbors to even have any interference with other equipment where I live. Router is on the main level with more than adequate ventilation and never gets warm.

This problems just started on the 2.4GHZ signal ONLY, I have had the DGL-5500 since late 2013.

I have always been a D-link DGL customer and this is my third router. The problems on the DGL-4500 were induced by the lousy firmware upgrade that made the entire network unstable and could not be back dated. After several complaints and discussion they finally provided a replacement router with the old 1.15 version software. By the way that still works fine in my home on the 2.4GHZ channels.

There was only one version of FW for teh 4500 that wasnt' good, v1.21. v1.22 and .23 are stable and good. However, what you have loaded now, keep it. The 4500 is solid and stable. I still have 3 of them.  ;D
