Camera's light not changing to green after upgrade
« on: April 21, 2015, 07:28:52 AM »

I just bought this camera and setup was a piece of cake. I downloaded the app on my android device and the cam worked but then i was prompted with an "new update available"  message and i clicked on yes. After that the camera's light turned to red and wouldn't switch to the solid green. I tried everything (including hiting the reset button) but nothing changed. I finally decided that somehow deleting the camera from mydlink would help but now I am stuck with nothing. I have a camera that wont do anything. What should i do? Pls help me, i just got this! Holding down the reset button for 20 seconds doesn't do anything either.

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?

I recommend trying a re-load of the FW if you can gain access to the camera. If you can do a factory reset of the camera. Wire connect the camera to a router so it will get an IP address. Check to see if it gets an IP address on the main host router. If it does, access the cameras web page using the IP address. Send the FW file:
http://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DCS-5010L
After it completes the load, do one more factory reset then set up the camera from scratch. I don't know for sure if you need to use the set up wizard program on this camera or not, you may need too...

Thank You for the reply. I can't seem to do the factory reset either. Pressing that button does nothing as the red light remains constant throughout. I am currently in Pakistan. I however do not know very much about the IP addresses. Could you please elaborate the procedure to check if it gets an IP address on the main host router?

Was the upgrade performed over a wired or wireless connection?

Check the main host router's DHCP connected clients table. There maybe an IP address listed there for the camera.
What is the Mfr and model of the main host router?

Power OFF the camera for 30 seconds. Connect a LAN wired cable to the camera. Power ON. Give it a minute. Check to see if the IP address appears on the routers client table list with your PC.

You should install the setup wizard program on your PC and see if it can detect the camera as well...you may need to walk thru the set up wizard to see if you can get it set up...

How did you perform the factory reset?  The rear of the camera has a recessed button that you'll need a paperclip to push.  While the camera is powered-up, press and hold the recessed button (with a paperclip) for > 9 seconds.  That should restore the camera to the factory default settings.

Yes did exactly that but nothing changes; the red light doesn't blink or go away.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.
