Cant ping wireless laptop from wired desktop
« on: January 08, 2011, 10:00:07 AM »

I have a Dir 628,,,    Wanted to control my wireless laptop on my local private network (192.168.x.x) from my wired PC desktop.. I found that I cannot ping the wireless local address , 192.168.0.190 from my wired desktop 192.168.0.197..  If I put a wired connection to the laptop, this then works ok.. I'm running Norton from Comcast for my virus protection..
The web contains a few of this exact symptoms, different wireless routers, but no real fixes..
Think this has something to do with the 802 wireless security somewhere.. ???

Check in the Advanced Wireless section under the Advanced Tab.  Make sure the WLan Partition is not checked on.

Then check in the Norton "settings."   When I was using Norton 360, the "hidden" firewall controls was blocking the SSID (wireless network name) and also blocking the NetBIOS name resolution.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction..   It was the norton  Norton Security Suite 4.3 (from Comcast).. There were alot services blocked with a (Shared Network) note..  I added my wireless network as "Shared" in the Norton,, works good now..  :)
