Title: DIR-685 : Replacement firmware maybe!
Post by: johsm67 on February 26, 2010, 02:10:32 AM
Hi,

I'm not a Linux compiler fan or similar, but as there seems to be alot of issues and missing features
in the current DIR-685 firmware (1.0) i was wondering what opportunities you have to correct some
of them? (as the Taiwan D-Link product development team seems to react kind a slow or not at all!)

The product is a nice gadget, but it would seriously need some enhancements and corrections to the current firmware!

Is it possible modify and recompile the GPL code, and then reflash your router with your own image?

Then i maybe could change the default "Workgroup name", add a service etc.
Is it that simple? Or am i missing some points here....

It is not usually that simple, though it sounds like the changes you want to inflict are Windows driver/software issues not device firmware issues.
