Samsung TV Wired Connection
« on: October 04, 2011, 01:45:25 AM »

Hello.

I have problem connecting Samsung (series6) TV to DIR-600. TV wired connection does not work with DLINK DIR-600 150. Is there a work around ?

Config :

DIR 600 is working in access point mode

Check list :

Cat-6 Patch Cord - works (brand new works fine with laptop)
TV network port - works (works fine with aztech ADSL/Switch)

Is the TV getting any IP addressing on the networking menus on the TV?
Look on the Setup/Networking menu on the router when the TV is on and connected and do you see any IP addressing information under Dynamic DHCP clients?

Also look on the Status page on the router, Under LAN and see if you notice any IP addresses connected to a device there.

Let us know.

I am connecting the TV to the wired port.. (RJ45 JACK) with a Cat6 patch cord.

Connecting from DLINK DIR600 (one of the 4 Ethernet ports) to TV Ethernet port (RJ45 JACK)

I have tested the port on TV works fine with Aztech ADSL modem (on the Ethernet port)

I have tested the Cat6 patch cord and it works fine with a laptop.

If it works fine with your LT connected to the router and doesn't with the TV, might be something on the TV. Is the network properties for the TV enabled and ready for a connection? I might call up the TV Mfr for help if needed.

Let us know.

TV network port works fine when i connect it to the network with a aztech switch.

TV does not work when I connect it to DLINK DIR-600..

I connect the cable to Aztech switch TV works fine.. remove connection and plug the same cable to DLINK DIR-600 it does not work..

PS : I have about 15 years of experience in networking and I am a Cisco Certified.

DLINK DIR-600 is configured as "access point mode" (i have mentioned that in my first post)

When the Dlink DIR-600 is configured to be in access point mode it will act as a wireless bridge and disable any NAT, layer 3 and DHCP functions.

I have DHCP server setup on Aztech ADSL router and the DHCP server works fine. (If I plug my laptop to the same interface I am connecting the TV  it works)

How is the DIR wired to the host router? Are you using WAN and LAN ports one the DIR?

setup

1) Aztech ADSL router (has 4 Ethernet Ports) connects to internet, runs DHCP server
2) DLINK DIR-600 - Configured as access point mode. DLINK DIR-600 Port 1 (Ethernet LAN port) connects to Aztech ADSL router port 1 (Ethernet LAN Port) using a CAT6 patch cord (test with a fluke cable tester)

This problem has been discussed on Samsung/CNET forums and acknowledged as many users are facing same problem.

Wonder if you put in a switch, non dlink switch between the TV and the 600 router, would it resolve this issue? Sounds like there is an incompatibility issue between the router and the TV here.  ???

??? Thank your for your reply. I was under the impression that all switches and network ports are built to standard at layer 2 level..

I may have to get rid of my TV and get a something that is compatible with DIR-600

Before you get rid of the TV, I would try a switch and also I would try a different mode router as well if you can. Best Buy and Frys has good full refund policies. Would be interesting to see if a different one works or not. I have a cousin in PDX that has a 655 router connected to his TV however not sure what make and model of TV he's got. I don't think it's a Samsung.  :-\  If your willing to wait, the DGL-4500 is a great router. Not sure about if it would work with your TV though.  ::)

Ok I got a response from Samsung.. they said its the DLINK switch is the problem..

Quote
Looking thru it, we cannot disclose that it is really the
Samsung TV which has the issue because it has worked with your Belkin
router before but not only with your Dlink DIR-600 switch.

From our side, we will be forwarding your case to concerned teams to
check and hopefully we will get a positive response that can make your
TV detect your new Dlink router.

To reply to your question earlier.. I have tried the TV with three different types of switches and the TV works.. but it does not work with DLINK DIR-600. Which clearly means the software inside the DLINK switch is preventing it from recognizing the TV.

Can you ask DLINK for feature request where their product has a "stupid mode" which disables all their smart software and works as simple layer2 wireless bridge.. what it supposed to do in the first place.
