First, from the perspective of the camera itself:

1. The zoom preset on all your cameras appears to be upper left extreme. That needs to be changed to a out-of-box default of "dead center."

2. The ability to control all lights at the camera. In other words, the camera should be able to be set to "all indicator lights off" this would allow for the camera to be placed in such a way as NOT to reveal its absolute location. For anyone that thinks that putting the light on the back is the answer, its not. Covering it is not either.   Red light indicator for night illumination. Do I understand that this camera does not actually use infra-red? If it does, no more red light indicators please, IR can be undetectable.

4. A clip molded on the base of the unit, allowing the wire to be captured and thereby taking the torque/stress off the wire and the all too loose head lock-up.

5. The plastic arm coming out from the camera (the white one with the "ball" at the end" cannot be shipped as is. It must be somehow made fast, right now its threads can easy back out with a 5 degree rotation....and does.

6. All sorts of clinking and sound static. Either correct the hardware microphone selection, rewrite the sensitivity buffers, or DEFAULT to viewing within a. SmartPhone b. MYDLINK and c> M-DVIEWCAN as OFF.
I have heard the 942 feedback loop within 5 seconds of startup. This problem is well documented on-line and a true "purchase killer" for many.

7. The ability to "stack" cameras in a permanent order, as we would wish. In other words...a) SmartPhone b)MYDLINK, when we start up the app have the phones list stack in OUR preferred order top to bottom.

8. MYDLINK . Here I would like the ability to not only setup a guest list, but assign individual cameras to be viewed by that guest list. In other words, I want access granted BY CAMERA to the guest list. Some cameras should be able to be denied.

9. Motion detector setup, honestly, I have yet to find it. One clearly does not stumble across the means to utilize this feature.

10. Smart phone app that allows for "cycling through" all your cameras. THis would instead of return, select, pause, view, return....repeat.

11. Ok, I give up...is there a speaker? Can one not just listen but talk as well? No idea....

12. We need a night vision unit produced with PTL that is for this family of products.

13. We need an exterior NV unit produced with PTL that is for this family of products.

14. Alarm option. I would like to know if any of my cameras are being accessed by others while I am infront of it. In other words, a hard switch option on the camera that would send a distinctive chirp if requested that would inform me that one of my cameras is active in a room im in.

thanks.

Thank you for your thorough input. I've added a subset of your items to the firmware wishlist. Unfortunately, since some of your suggestions are hardware changes, I was unable to add them to the firmware Wishlist.

1. The zoom preset on all your cameras appears to be upper left extreme. That needs to be changed to a out-of-box default of "dead center."

Added.

Added.

4. A clip molded on the base of the unit, allowing the wire to be captured and thereby taking the torque/stress off the wire and the all too loose head lock-up.

Hardware change.

5. The plastic arm coming out from the camera (the white one with the "ball" at the end" cannot be shipped as is. It must be somehow made fast, right now its threads can easy back out with a 5 degree rotation....and does.

Hardware Change.

Added.

7. The ability to "stack" cameras in a permanent order, as we would wish. In other words...a) SmartPhone b)MYDLINK, when we start up the app have the phones list stack in OUR preferred order top to bottom.

Can you please clarify this firmware wishlist item? I'm not sure what you are referring to.

8. MYDLINK . Here I would like the ability to not only setup a guest list, but assign individual cameras to be viewed by that guest list. In other words, I want access granted BY CAMERA to the guest list. Some cameras should be able to be denied.

This feature is already included on the mydlink Feature Wishlist, here: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=41091.0 (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=41091.0)

9. Motion detector setup, honestly, I have yet to find it. One clearly does not stumble across the means to utilize this feature.

Motion detection can be configured in the web interface by navigating to SETUP -> Motion Detection.

10. Smart phone app that allows for "cycling through" all your cameras. THis would instead of return, select, pause, view, return....repeat.

I added this feature to the mydlink feature wishlist (which more closely fits this request).

11. Ok, I give up...is there a speaker? Can one not just listen but talk as well? No idea....

Need other users to validate/replicate any issue regarding speaker functionality before I can add this item.

12. We need a night vision unit produced with PTL that is for this family of products.

What is PTL? Please clarify this request.

13. We need an exterior NV unit produced with PTL that is for this family of products.

What is PTL? What is NV? Please clarify this request.

14. Alarm option. I would like to know if any of my cameras are being accessed by others while I am infront of it. In other words, a hard switch option on the camera that would send a distinctive chirp if requested that would inform me that one of my cameras is active in a room im in.

Hardware change.

Three items:

1 - The ability to turn off just the IR ilumination but still keep the automatic color mode/bw mode.
Why needed : I'm using the camera behind glass and I use a separate small iluminator ($5 on ebay) to avoid reflection back on the camera. I taped the 4 leds for now but would be better I can just turn them off.

2-  The ability to send the 6 snapshots in one email. Just like 932L
Why needed : it declutters the inbox and makes it much easier to go thru emails. That is my favorite feature with 932L

3 - The test button for email and FTP. Just like 932L
Why needed : that is invaluable to set it up. I actually used another 932L to test those settings then copy/past them them 942L.

I believe that #10 in DAMNYANKEEs list

10. Smart phone app that allows for "cycling through" all your cameras. THis would instead of return, select, pause, view, return....repeat.

can be accomplished with tinyCam Monitor FREE. I use this with my Android phone and my DCS-942L. Video is ok, no audio. I don't know the audio URL, or if there's another issue. The app has a setting for camera sequencing, although I can't try it since I don't have multiple cameras.

There are several desktop apps that have that functionality as well. I didn't include that request in the firmware wishlist since it's client based (e.g. mydlink or a third-party monitor app).

I have updated to firmware 1.01. Here are some things I noticed.

FIXED: General - Ability to disable all LED lights, including the rear of the DCS-942L. This is in maintenance, device setting (very bottom) Now the only time the light comes on is when plugging in. It stays on for a couple of seconds then no lights anymore. Power/Link, Flicker, Off are options.

FIXED: Zoom - Change default zoom to center of image (rather than upper left corner). Now the 2x and 4x zoom focus on whatever was in the center of the view previously at 1x.

FIXED?: Email Notification - Ability to send 6 snapshots in one email (similar to the DCS-932L). The choice is there to send 6 snapshots, although it doesn't specify whether they are in one email or 6. I tried it, got 1 pic per email, 6 emails in 6 seconds, and 30 seconds between email bursts. My last camera sent 6 in one zipped file.

Probably a hardware issue: Night Mode - Use IR illuminator that does not emit light in the visible range. This may require a more expensive parts. Not visible IR LEDs can be used but they could need a better receiver circuit for them to be powerful enough.

I would like to see the record time settings have more range. This includes recording video for longer than 10 seconds max and not having to wait 30 seconds between snapshot bursts. I can do this with 3rd party software but it seems like it could be done in the firmware.

My bad. . . shouldn't have been on the list to start with.

One thing I don't see with the 942L is an indicator when the motion detector is triggered, when viewing with the web interface. You can set sensitivity but can't tell if the camera has detected the motion. Other camera web interfaces and also 3rd party software have an alert notification. This is helpful to determine if you have the sensitivity adjusted where you want.

Another good idea  :)

It's a bit disconcerting having to check emails for motion detection trigger events. Your suggestion is much cleaner.

I used to have the 930L and when you set the snapshot to 6 images they all come in one email which is nice. It appears that on the 942L I have now it comes as 6 different emails which can get really annoying. If that could be added it would be much appreciated

This functionality is presently available. Log into mydlink and navigate to: Camera Info (tab) > Advanced Settings. This path will provide access to the settings in your DCS-942L web interface.

Email Notification - Ability to send email notifications to at least 2 different email addresses (my wife and I).

Trigger by option in Snapshot and Video Clip - Option to be able to choose different start/end time ranges for different days (ie. Monday Time Start:1:00am End: 6:00am; Saturday Time Start:6:00am End: 6:00pm)

Thanks,

Hi JavaLawyer,
In one of the posts, you were looking for confirmation of the audio noise problem.  My 942L constantly transmits an annoying chirping type noise, unlike the noted compaint from the other poster of his only lasting the first five seconds.  This chirping type noise is so prevelant that I cannot hear any other sounds coming from the room the camera is in at all.

Did you try resetting your DCS-942L to the factory defaults to see if that remedy's the issue? From everything I've seen on these boards, there doesn't seem to be a widespread noise issue (unlike the DCS-930L and DCS-932L which have intermittent background clicking noises).
Title: Re: DCS-942 - Firmware Wishlist
Post by: galanbr on February 08, 2012, 08:39:11 PM
The camera was right out of the box and I had not made any settings changes, so a factory reset should not have been required.  Nonetheless, I did as you suggested and performed a factory reset, which made no difference to the constant noise - it sounds like an old movie projector.  I can hear sounds when someone speaks so I know the microphone is working and that it is not an inherent defect in the camera itself.

p.s.  The other surprise was that performing a factory reset did a deletion of the camera registration on the mydlink site in my account.  I had to completely reinstall the camera.  I was not impressed by that!

I believe this feature is intentional. There were a number of cases were users purchased refurbished cameras and were unable to register with mydlink because the camera was already registered under another name. The factory reset purges any residual registration data.

In the power up sequence read time from the computer automatically. If the computer is not on then use the last time available. Make time a non-volatile setup parameter.

In the Web UI under SETUP > Time and Date there's an option to automatically synchronize the time/date from a user defined NTP server. Have you tested this functionality?

DCS-942L - great camera! Here is my wishlist for the next firmware release (I'm using v1.01):

- Change the "Send next FTP after" (Snapshot Setup) lower limit from 10 to 1 (as in the DCS-932L).

- Some sort of indicator that shows the motion detect is firing. Another indicator that shows the PIR is firing. This would help when configuring the motion detect parameters.

- ftp Test button (as in the DCS-932L)

Hi!
I just registered myself to this forum because I just bought this webcam of which I must say that, until now, it's superior to my expectations.

Whishlist:

1) A smb server to access files in sd-card. It would be very useful, i guess. And quite easy to do: my box came with the GPL license, so is a Linux box, so it would be nice add samba-common and samba-server, like in d-link routers.
2) Firmware update. The page on the webinterface links to the Taiwanese site ( http://www.dlinktw.com.tw/support/) which is funny but pointless. Unless you speak Taiwanese... :)

I post other wishes when I'll put this camera under production. If it will fit my expectation, will be first of other two webcam devoted to look over our family's country house.

See you soon, space cowboy...

In the Web UI under SETUP > Time and Date there's an option to automatically synchronize the time/date from a user defined NTP server. Have you tested this functionality?

Add my 1 cent to this wish. I just discovered that this setting is not carried over the next reboot.

For example, ntp server could not be accessible. In the place where my camera will work, I have no internet but just a local lan with no computers but just a router and some cameras. When I go there a carry my laptop with me.

So, one wish more.

Ok I found the first real bug bug.

Light sensor switches to night mode too early. My firmware is 1.10_1217 (EU) but it happens with 1.10_1229 as well.

In our living room with all the lights on, which is a lot of light, camera set up to night mode. The only way to get back to day mode (a color image along) is to point directly toward light bulbs.

I for one can't get the NTP update to work, regardless if I use one of the two
pre-defined NTP's or pick one of the well known public ones.

The Time/date is carried over when warmstarting / rebooting (through GUI)
but it is NOT when toggling the power off/on, something I just experienced
after a week away from home. Halfway through the recordings the date was back to "zero"
from a power outage.

As for feature requests...
From my previous discovery I'd like the motion algorithm to be revamped
so that your motion area doesn't affect motion senitivity and a feature add
would be to have multiple zones that could be set to different sensibilities.
Maybe overkill for a consumer product but the "professional grade" cameras
I've in my other home all have that feature and it's quite handy sometimes.

My personal findings >> http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=42004.msg177970#msg177970
If i draw a single line through the image area it's enough with ~80-85% sensitivity to detect a human
crossing that line, but if I "paint" more than 50% of the image to be my detection area I could set the
sensitivity to 99% and a herd of elephants could run through and it still won't pick up on it.
Maybe it's just my unit that's acting flaky, but to me it seems as if the motion triggering is based on
a comparison of data in the image (duh, obviously) but rather than comparing the selected area to a
static referense image, it is compared to the unselected area.

Can additional users please confirm this anomaly?  (i.e. selecting 50%+ of the image area will cause the unit not detect any motion despite the sensitivity settings?)  :-\

I would like to add a few things to the wish list...
-Ability to access the 942L's sd card via a folder
-Ability to have a snapshot taken at the same time as video is recorded.
-Ability to view thumbnails of snapshots and/or video

I have too much recorded video to go through and a thumbnail view would make things a lot easier reviewing the footage.

A more appropriate request would be to fix the unreachable camera issue. However, the question remains as to whether there really is an issue with the DCS-942L or whether the problem is router/network-based? Do other users experience this issue?

Can you please be more specific in what you are looking for? Are you looking for a user defeined naming convention? File name with date appended?  Please clarify.

Yes it would be great if the user had the option to just specify their own naming convention when ftping files to the server.   Folder and filename.

For example I would like to be able to tell the camera just ftp the file to folder /pictures and name the file picture.jpg.  This would cause the file picture.jpg to be continually overwritten.

Very useful when your trying to simply show the latest image on a website.

Thx

is powered off.

Hi Administrator,

I am just a beginner for using this amazing network camera. But what suffer me the most is that that image cannot be rotate 90 degree or 270 degree , clockwise or anti-clockwise, but only flip and mirror. Since i can only get the best angel when the camera is rotated clockwise. So, please please please to have it in your next firmware update.

Image - Add ability to rotate image 90 and 270 degrees in additon to flip and mirror

Big thanks

There's some items on the Wishlist that have been addressed as of 1.10 / 1.11
and D-Link deserves the credit for doing so...

•General - The web interface support page links to the Manderine language D-Link Taiwan site (http://www.dlinktw.com.tw/support/
Is now http://support.dlink.com/

•Email Notification - Add an email test button (similar to the DCS-932L)
At the bottom of the email setup screen (snapshot)

•Email Notification - Ability to automatically send multiple snapshots in the same email (rather than separate emails for each snapshot)
Mine sends all six in one email.

•Motion Detection - Motion detection indicator integrated in the web interface to more easily (and accurately) adjust sensitivity
Top left corner of live view.

•Night Mode - Ability to disable IR Illuminator while the camera is in Night Mode (i.e. to enable application of a third party IR Illuminator)
Not sure what functionality was requested, but you can set it to "Manual IR" which should do the trick.

•Recording Video - Increased range for record time settings (i.e. recording video longer than the current 10 second maximum and eliminating the need to wait 30 seconds between snapshot bursts)

You can record up to 65 seconds (5 - pre, 60 - post)
30 second "delay" still seems to be there though

•Recording Video - Ability to capture a snapshot at the same time video is recorded
Again, not sure what's requested but mine sends an email with six snapshots
and I have no problem viewing the recorded video of the very same event.

  • General - Retain date/time following a power outage
To do this, the CAM should have a built-in battery (otherwise I misunderstood).

  • Night Mode - Ability to adjust the light level required to trigger the transition between Day and Night Modes
The DCS-942L should have also a time schedule to trigger between day and night modes in the same way as DCS-2230 cam (Schedule Mode : The camera will enter Day mode at the starting time and return to Night mode at the ending time).

  • Recording Video - Option in SETUP > Video Clip > Trigger by to configure different start/end times for each day
Also on pages "Setup -> Snapshot -> Trigger by" and "Setup -> SD Recording -> Trigger by" to configure different start/end times for each day of the week.

  • Time - NTP not functioning properly (issue reported by multiple users)
Solved on 1.12 firmware release (see thread on "http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=50206.0")

1. A new firmware for the SE Asia market. FW 1.10 as available from the site is explicitly not for SEA purchased cameras. Why? Is this market not important enough?

2. The clock setting dialogue starts at year 2002 but ends in 2011. We have 2012 !! Why?

3. Ability to upload files to dropbox.

4. better wireless. My camera drops off the wireless quite often.

5. NTP status. I just rebooted my camera and its clock went back to 2011/1/1 and stayed there for many minutes. No indication about NTP synchronization issues.

6. Ability to access SD-card photos and clips remotely (via mydlink.com)

7. SMS alerts on motion capture

8. better motion detection. Not only by sensitivity but also minimum time that an event happens (to filter out minor, very shortlived changes)

9. Quick enable/disable alert on motion feature (w/o the need to clear/unset all the motion options). So that one cal quickly tuen it on when leaving home, and quickly disable when back. This should also be available remotely via mydlink lite.

Differences in regional settings mandate different firmware versions specifically slated for different reasons. This different versions have their own release cycles.

2. The clock setting dialogue starts at year 2002 but ends in 2011. We have 2012 !! Why?

Unclear as to what you are describing here. . . Is this in the latest firmware?

3. Ability to upload files to dropbox.

4. better wireless. My camera drops off the wireless quite often.

This may be a router configuration or network issue, as there haven't been persistent complaints about network stability.

5. NTP status. I just rebooted my camera and its clock went back to 2011/1/1 and stayed there for many minutes. No indication about NTP synchronization issues.

NTP was fixed in the latest firmware (see fixed items in this wishlist thread)

It depends on so many parameters, such as walls, distance between cam and router/access point, and even by electrical/electronic interferences.

5. NTP status. I just rebooted my camera and its clock went back to 2011/1/1 and stayed there for many minutes. No indication about NTP synchronization issues.
Solved on Firmware 1.12 (see http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=50431.0 (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=50431.0) and http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=50206.0 (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=50206.0)).

7. SMS alerts on motion capture
There are two ways:
1) via hardware, in this case DCS-942L should have a built-in SIM card reader in order to send a SMS message.
2) via software, in this case DCS-942L should use a "URL parameter definition" as used by D-Link NAS DNS-325 (on DNS-325 manual : "You need to have an agreement with a SMS service gateway that the device can then be configured to send the alerts to. The service provider then sends the received alerts to the configured mobiles as text messages").

Title: SMTP Mail issue
Post by: frontegi on October 30, 2012, 02:21:37 AM
Hi,
I'm trying to set outgoing mail SMTP username in the snapshot Tab.
My provider SMTP username is very long, it is my whole email address gxxxxx.fxxxxxxxxxx@fastwebnet.it .
The textbox, is limited, I cannot insert the username and send email. This is a very annoying issue.

Are you sure the username is being truncated after you save?

What about the fact that the darned camera doesn't record using MAC like it advertises. They admit it doesn't, its a glitch and they are not sure if they will be able to repair or not with no time frame and no refund.

The DCS-942L records video directly to the on-board flash memory card, which is independent of the computing platform. The D-Link D-ViewCam software, however, is only available for the Windows platform.

Some color correction would be nice.
The image from these cameras has a really annoying green-ish tint, even in soft, warm, lighting conditions.
Playing with the Brightness/Contrast/Saturation cannot solve the problem, it's a matter of color balance/hue adjustment.
(It doesn't have to be a user-adjustable feature either, just a one-time setting adjustment in the firmware. I doubt that anyone likes the current green, underwater-looking image.)

The DCS-920, for example, produced a much better balanced image.

Hi,

I use DCS-942L to send scheduled snapshot to my email address. It works but the frequency of snapshot does not seem to be configurable. I have the impression that it is set to 10mns?

It is a very nice feature because motion detection can send too many emails if there is activity (like a cat moving!). One email per hour for instance would help me to monitor without being flooded by tens of emails if I used motion detection.

Can we have the possibility to change frequency of snapshot when "schedule" is selected?
I think it is available in other models?

Thanks,

Renardo

The motion detection feature does have the option to select a "single snapshot" rather than "6 snapshots" during each motion trigger event. Nonetheless, I'll add your request.  ;)

Hi,

I am not sure I was understood in my last post.

My request is about "snapshot" + "schedule" (not about motion detection).
I propose to have a configurable frequency of snapshot. Today it is fixed to 10mns (and btw it is not documented). Can be from "every 10s" to "every 6 hours"? I am looking at "every 1h" for me.

Ok?

Thanks,

Renardo

I understood. The entry in the Wishlist that was added states: "General - Option to set a user defined frequency for  scheduled snapshots (rather than the default of one snapshot per 10 minutes)"

Does that statement accurately capture your thoughts?

Ability to specify any legal wifi password.  The password of the router i need to access includes an exclamation mark.  I'm told that only alphanumerics are supported, which is a problem if the router you need to access isn't one whose password you can change.

It is a must to control/change all ports (https & co) in web-admin. All bought cams are useless as for me now as I need port 443 for exchange (OWA) and finally all external exchange clients can`t log in anymore as 443 is blocked by the cams via router`s UPnP.

Funny thing 443 is portforwarded to the servers IP but the cams force the router, as trying to call the port till it`s opened by UPnP. One time opened, it`s  blocked - the UPnP-entry (443) blocks this port till I manual delet all entrys in table. Then external exchange clients are able to login again to the server.

So only solution is to control this port - change it camera side to another like you have it on other models!!!

Thanks - same I posted to the DCS-5222L as this model is also same firmware & have same bug!

  • Why is minimum range value of 'Send next FTP after' 10 seconds, why not less?? Why should there be a cap in recordings, if duration of triggered FTP is longer than maximum duration? Zero or 1 second as minimum value would be nice

I want to propose option for quick setup recording.
Example: i go out at different time, and "shedule of record" not for me.

So i must:

1. Login on CAM1
2. Setup "Snapshot" by motion
3. Save, wait for save.
4. Then i go to "Video Clip" and perform step 3 again
5. The same story for "SD-recording

Maybe make some script like quickstart.cgi who ran a recording chamber. (I would have been able to run it from a smartphone via IP)

PS: Now I try to find a POST-request for the same actions

Hello,

I've not yet upgraded to the latest firmware, but there is something missing for me : the ability to save the image settings, especially flip/mirror.
Right now my image Setup -> image settings are reset at each reboot (there is no "save settings" button like for the others settings).
As I need to flip the image, each time there is a power failure I get my videos flipped.
If not already covered, I guess it would make sense to at least save the flip/mirror settings internally and recover them at restart.

How about the option to record a file longer than 6 minutes max?  Let's say for whatever reason I want to review a large chunk of video, and I want to download it from the sd card over the web, well I have to manually download numerous files.

I can understand keeping the file size small for email sending but why for local storage?  At my current video  settings, 6 minutes is taking about 17 megs.  Let me download one 200 meg file if I want to instead of numerous 17 meg files.

I'm not sure what suggestion to use for a limit if there's something else I'm not seeing, but I would think even a expand the drop down menu options and a  custom size setting and as long as the user doesn't specify something ridiculously huge, why not?

I thought of another firmware suggestion: how about not defaulting to the live feed (or an 'advanced' option to default to any other screen like setup.   The reason being it would be nice to administrate this by an android/iphone device via a browser.  Say one wanted to change sd card settings or delete some files.  I'm sure the video feed would fail being java but any other page without a video feed should be able to be modfied.

Maybe make a sub url?  ip.of.camera/admin?

If you upgraded to a 2132L you could control that.  It's probably not going to happen on the old 942L IMHO.

Unfortunately, at present, the only way to simulate that functionality on the DCS-942L is to cover the IR lights (e.g. with electrical tape).

If that's the case, what is manual IR option for?  I thought it was for this exactly.  Because right now, manual IR apparently does nothing.

If manual IR should do this but does not, I would think it's a bug.

And in the firmware request list it lists:

Quote
Night Mode - Ability to disable IR Illuminator while the camera is in Night Mode (i.e. to enable application of a third party IR Illuminator) [FIXED!]

How is the above done?

I just reviewed the DCS-942L manual and you're absolutely correct -- my bad. If that's not functioning properly, then yes, we should characterize your request as a bug.

If you review the DCS-942L manual, there are instructions on how to use this functionality. There is an IR LED On/Off button on the LIVE VIDEO page on the UI that appears only when the camera is set to Manual IR. Please post back as to whether this functionality works for you.

It would be nice if the camera would work without ethernet cable.

With my Fritz Box the camera doesn´t work in wlan mode!!!!!!

But this is an already known problem. Shame on D-Link that they are not able to fix that!!!!!

The ability to copy all videos from sd card to computer without having to remove sd card and put it into pc. If we could just copy all sd files in the 192. website to hard drive that would be great as my camera is not in an easy location to get to.

My camera is on continuous recording so it becomes tedious to click on every single file to save it to hard drive, there should just be an option to "save all".

My 942L dont have this issue on firmware v1.12
Audio - Fix intermittent clicking/static

Additional Wishlist:
General - Add additional DDNS provider like no-ip.org
Security - add option not to send Admin password to mydlink.com
Logs - add option to email logs on daily basis
Logs - "An anonymous user is streaming video" is too generic.  Please put mydlink user-id if streaming from mydlink.com, iOS or andriod

Hi,
a couple of thieves entered in my home 6 days ago. Thanks to this webcam I have snapshots with theirs faces. Unfortunately the email notification is arrived later so they had stolen all the jewelry that we had.
I'm here to ask again if is possible to implement the multi email notification, but not only.
My request is: is not possible to implement also a feature that permit the notification with sms or with a preregistrated voice that call a number of telephone?
I can imagine that is not simple but I think that this could be a paid service that D-Link could implement.
Thanks a lot.

You need a security system, not a camera.

Lowes Iris will do this.
Insteon is another such system available online.

Both are free from monthly fees.

Sorry about that...

I tried to research dlink before I went with lowe's... didn't find much in the security type department.. came across something from 06-08, but appeared to be abandoned.  javalawyer had no response to my inquiry about the product, so must be dead.

My 942L dont have this issue on firmware v1.12
Audio - Fix intermittent clicking/static

This is fixed in the latest firmware?

I have 2x 942L and this intermittent clicking/static seems to happen once every 3 to 5 mins.  You could still hear the voice conversation clearly.  This intermittent clicking/static is so faint that you will probably not notice.  My 932L has a more annoying continuous static noise.

My suggestion is to change bug description to:
Audio - Fix intermittent "faint" clicking/static

Additional wishlist:
Wifi - Ability to switch to secondary wifi if the main wifi-internet fails.

Thumbs up to Firmware 1.22 for the new HTTPS and other feature. Seems stable.

I am not sure this could be fixed by a firmware upgrade, but when it gets dark, I see only the reflection of my vertical stores in the window (the camera is between the stores and the window).
The problem comes from the IR lighting which gets reflected from the window, which acts as a mirror.

Strange, isn't it?

Fix the camera viewing plug-in so it doesn't take 300% CPU.

Are you referring to an existing "IP FILTER" option in the web UI?  What is the exact path?  If none exists, what exact page would this field be included on?

What I need is another choice.
The goal is to give access to the Setup Page only to the admin IP Address.
Thus preventing unwanted access to it.

File format like this: 2013/12/04 or 2013-12-04 (for today's date), instead of being like it is now: 20131204 ...
In a better world, being able to choose the date format: 2013/12/04, or: 04/12/2013, day of the week as well, and so on.
Also, why don't you add the extension *.jpg or *.avi so we don't have to hover over the link in order to find the right file?

300%?

Yes.  I have a Macbook Pro with a 2.3 GHz quad-core I7 and the NCSPlugin manages to spool up the fans.  All four cores get loaded to 75% exclusively by the plugin == 300% CPU load reported by the Activity Monitor.  That's to stream 640x480 video.

I can only imagine they're performing timing with infinite loops or some other bone-headed thing.

OK JavaLawyer.

Here I go.
You have links like:

   20131204_232025.jpg   16
   20131204_232025.avi   2026
   20131204_231101.jpg   16

   20131204_230706.avi   2095
   20131204_230621.jpg

But on my Ubuntu Firefox I can only see that:

Wouldn't it be possible to move the Gray rectangle with the .avi & .jpg links in the centre, and keep the "Files per Page ... Refresh" text above it so I (and guess other people) could see the text of the extensions?

Thanks.

Hi.

Isn't there a way to make so after hitting the "Reload current page" button in Firefox we get back to the page we were at (in my case the Image Setup one, but it goes for all the other ones except for the Setup Wizard page), instead of being redirected to the Setup Wizard page (which we need only once in the beginning of the installation of the camera)?

Thanks.

No. The entire setup wizard is preloaded when launched and is driven from JavaScript that collects the required information for each page of the wizard. The pages displayed in the Wizard are actually driven through the preloaded JavaScript, so reloading the page will reset all the fields.

I am not sure we are talking about the same thing.

What I need is, after I reload a page (no matter which one), that I get back to it, and not the Setup Wizard one (which I have not called for).
You are saying: "reloading the page will reset all the fields.", but if we were talking about the same reloading of a page, how come my PIR Sensitivity under Motion Detection on the Setup page is "High" (the setting I modified) and not "Medium" as it is by default?
Are we addressing the same concern here?

Thanks.

I was referring specifically to the setup wizard page in the DCS-942L web UI.  If you look at the page source after selecting the setup wizard link, you'll find JavaScript for all pages in the Wizard, i.e. clicking "next" doesn't load a new page from the web UI, but is simply iterating through preloaded code.  So hitting refresh will cause all values in the setup wizard to reset to null values.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I was saying, that after I reload another page but the Setup Wizard one, I am ALWAYS redirected to it (the Setup Wizard page), which makes no sense to me.
Meaning, if I am on the Audio and Video page for instance, after I hit the Reload current page button on my browser, I am expecting the page to reload and come back to the Audio and Video page.
Which unfortunately does not happen, as I am always redirected to the Setup Wizard page.

Regards.

Odd. I have several different cameras (DCS-932L, DCS-931L, and DCS-5020L) and don't have that issue. Can any other DCS-942L owners validate/replicate this behavior?

When you are in the "Video page" that you are referring to, what is the URL in your browser? After you hit refresh, what is the URL in your browser?

Thanks, I now understand what you were describing earlier.  It looks like the web UI behaves identically to the setup Wizard section in that the settings pages and all fields are pre-fetched in a single load, as is evidenced by the URL not changing for any of the links you clicked on in that video.  I suspect that if you look at the page source, all of the settings fields in the links you clicked on are pre-loaded into memory, so refreshing the page will purge everything.  The web UI for the DCS-930L and other related cameras does not operate this way, but rather, each page is independently loaded.  Odd...  :-\  ???

I'll add this to the FW wishlist, but practically speaking this seems like a major FW re-write if it's ever to be addressed. It seems that newer Cloud Cameras do not use this approach, so it's very possible the DCS-942L is unique in this way.

JavaLawyer, how about adding a feature to prevent the erasing of the pics and vids and formatting the Micro SD Card in order to prevent fraud and limiting the effects of hacking the camera?

The only way to erase the files and format the Micro SD Card will be after a reboot of the camera.
If one has it connected to a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply), no one would be able to erase the files (not even the CIA ;-) ) by rebooting it.

Otherwise, once the camera is hacked, files may disappear ...
The "only once after reboot" safety feature could be applied to other safety issues, like changing the admin IP Address for instance (the only one the camera may be controlled from).

Thanks.

Hi JavaLawyer.

My LIVE VIDEO under Setup\Image Setup is not live very often.
Every now and then, it freezes to a certain time and does not want to be live anymore.
Even after a reload of the current page, or a closing of the current tab and reopening a new one.
Restarting FF helps though.

Thanks.

Connection - If the wifi connection drops, can it auto reconnect.

Currently if my router is rebooted I have to manually reboot the camera to get it to reconnect.

This sounds like a network issue, not a missing DCS-942L function. All Cloud cameras should automatically reestablish network connectivity (wired/wireless) in the event of router reboot.

I don't know what is wrong, but motion triggering is broken in 1.23 (can't find it in the wishlist?). It works in 1.21 and 1.22. I have enabled video clip by email on motion between 7:30-16:15 mon-fri, also set SD recording. I get no video clips on the sd-card according to the schedule and no emails with video clips. I have the exact same settings in 1.21 and 1.22 - and it works! How comes no one else seem to have this problem? Is it because I use 24 hour-clock? Isn't 16:15 a valid time or something?

Field for User Name in E-mail Settings Too Short

I own 3 x DCS-942Ls and I'm quite happy with them.
However, I've found out that the field for User Name input in E-mail settings for either Video Clip or Shapshot is restricted to just 30 characters.
That doesn't suit mine which consists of 31 characters.

I've got a DCS-2332L as well and no problems when inputting my user name.

Could this please be rectified?

This wishlist contains firmware suggestions provided by the forum community and may not reflect actual changes to current or future D-Link firmware releases. Below is a summary of everyone's input thus far. Please let me know if I over generalized, misrepresented, or missed anyone's concerns and I'll refresh the list with updates. Recent items are highlighted in blue. Items fixed in the latest firmware update are striked out.

If any items in the wishlist were fixed by the latest firmware, please post and I'll update!

Wishlist:

1. The ability to stream recorded video files, rather than to have to download each separate recorded video and play it remotely. After all, we can view live video via RTSP in this way, so why not recorded video?

I imagine this would be like a PVR/DVR function and realize this implementation may fatten the firmware beyond of the DCS-942L's firmware bloat limit because it would require several video decoders (the camera only encodes video ATM AFAIK).

Implementation might be through RTSP, or even an IPTV concept where each camera could be a "channel". Could have FF, REW, PAUSE, PLAY features like one would expect.

2. (related to #1) Smart TV app (Samsung, LG, GoogleTV, etc.) to play live or recorded video as streamed video. User controls would be the expected REW, PAUSE, PLAY, FFWD, and a seek slider bar.

3. (related to #1) Single frame capture, such as: pause the recorded streamed video and press a "button" and that frame would be saved as a .jpg

4. (related to #1) Streamed recorded video would continue to play each video file in sequence (preferrably without noticeable gaps between each file) until stopped by the user.

5. Face recognition (and tagging?): this is likely a hardware change, so outside the scope of this camera's abilities.

 :)

This is most likely beyond the camera's physical specifications, but I'll add nonetheless...

Not a firmware upgrade. This is an external app

Hi there, I have a wish list entry for the DCS-942L (A1) Firmware.

Like other D-Link Cloud Camera's, we'd really like the option to change / edit the OSD (Date / Time / Camera Name) etc...... It's important to be able to move the OSD from it's default Left Hand Side and to edit such as field / font / color like the other camera's.  An example of why.... my DNS-322L displays it's OSD on the Left Hand Side also, so it is superimposed over the DCS-942L OSD..... very confusing and unreadable for this important info....

Thanks,

Cheers :)

Hello,
another suggestion for the next firmware :
SFTP support

Nowadays, many hosting services only allow secure file transfers, and don't support FTP any more.

Thanks !

I'm not sure if this is still being updated, but I would like an audio alert option if a speaker is hooked up (I don't think the device alone can make a peep).

Ideally we can upload a wav to the device.  I know space would probably be limited but even if it's something that is small say 500k and can loop x # of times.

If wav/audio file is not possible, then to be able to send a beep.  Hopefully if that is possible indicate how many beeps and maybe being able to set a status period before the event triggers again.

I'm surprised I never hear a request for audio events, the device has speaker support.  Right now I'm mucking with sending an email to a monitored account and having another device monitor that inbox and play whatever if email is from webcam.  But I'm doing this thinking, I wish this thing could beep...

I would not use "(" special characters then.

I would not use "(" special characters then.
I already use a dlink DCS-933L that does not cause problems with the font "(" it works perfectly. I use a router with FTP server that has the path that can not modify the character "(" so I'm forced to use it.) I do not understand why Both this difference between the 933L and the 942L. Of course if I had an alternative I would not have made that request.

Thanks for letting us know more about this. There are some special characters that I would avoid if possible. Use what works best and compromise where it doesn't. Hope it helps future users.
