DIR-601 HW Rev B1, FW 2.00NA drops connection to the internet.
« on: February 11, 2012, 09:42:23 AM »

My DIR-601 stops connecting to the internet so I have to power cycle the router daily, the 2.00 FW is not posted on the DLink Website.  I don't have this problem with my Linksys router.  E-mailing DLink doesn't help since they tell me to call, and I don't want to sit through menus and scripts.  Anyone else seeing this problem?  Hardware rev is B1.  Connection fails on both wired and wireless.

Also, as a side item, D-Link should ignore MAC filter for wired connections.

What region are you?

What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

This is for North America.  The problem is for wired connections as well as wireless, so I doubt the wireless settings have anything to do with the issue.  More importantly, the router is the losing connection to the cable modem, I don't have this problem with FW 1.02 with Rev A hardware.

Can you be more specific on where your located? I don't see any Rev B models for FW information for that rev model for NA.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.

Some things to try:
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Cat6 is recommended.
I would also check the modem logs if you can and see if there is any issues there.
If this is a cable modem, also check for t.v. line splitters before the cable modem. These will lower or degrade the signal going to the modem.

I have the same problem here and I have the exact same router (DIR-601 Rev B1 FW 2.00NA). My Internet is on DSL (PPoE) with the ISP B2B2C. Every few hours, I loose my Internet on both wired and wireless connection with the router. Strangely enough, at first I was using the DIR-601 Rev A1 and I never had any problem with it. Unfortunately, I installed DD-WRT on that Rev A1 router so that I could use it as a client bridge. I then bought another DIR-601 to use it as my primary router, thinking it would work as well as that first Rev A1 router. I'm lost, I have no idea what else to do, especially considering the fact that I had no problem at all when I was using the Rev A1 router so I don't think it's a problem caused by my modem or ISP.

I just sent an email to technical support as the problem is becoming unbearable (my phone is on VoIP so I can't afford to loose my Internet every few hours). I will keep you up-to-date hoping I will get a solution soon. Otherwise, I will have to consider buying another router.

Have you set up PPPoE on the router?
Have you enabled Always ON option?

Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using teamviewer if your interested. Its safe and secure.

Just got a reply from technical support and I applied what they told me to do. Reset the router to factory default and then I followed their complete walthrough the configuration of an Internet connection with a new router. The only thing that's different from the older configuration is that I left the space for "Service Name" blank (in the WAN setup page), as they asked me to do on the technical support email. I'll see if it get more stable following these instructions.

EDIT: it was just false hope, I just got disconnected from the Internet once again, after two hours. Is there anyway to get a refund from D-Link or at least to get them to send me a replacement router??

I finally brought it back to Future Shop, where I bought it, and they accepted to exchange it. I took a DIR-615 to replace it, I'll see later this evening if it this one is working correctly.

Mr. Furry Nutz, Do you have any solution for this or you suggest me too to go to store for refund.

I too have exactly same problem. I have D-Link DIR 601 router with HW B1 and FW 2.00.

I am in India right now but bought this router in USA on line from Amazon, just 15 days back.

I have DSL DHCP connection.I need to log in my connection to connect internet, means when I click brouser a ISP log in page opens where I have to enter my Id and password. My internet speed is 300 to 400 Kbps.

I configured it nicely with the help of CD wizard. I was not getting log in page, so on the basis of some knowledge gained here in the forum, I deactivated Advanced DNS and entered Primary DNS server and Secondary DNS server numbers. There after I get log in page of ISP.

The router works excellent when it works. But suddenly it fails to respond. The page of some sites will open while will not open for other sites. If it opens yahoo, it may not open google,on few trials it may open google but may not open yahoo. Many time it may not open any sites. After waiting for few minutes it may work as before with no problem. Problem is there if connected directly also. Wireless side is ok but connection with DSL modem breaks. From the forum it looks it is a general problem to all with this router, so some concrete solution to the problem is requested.

I have to add further.........

Every time when it does not open the page a error message 404 "Oops! The page you requested is not avilable.
Some times surrfing on one site is with no problem, but other site even reputed and secure site like of banks, google will not open. Even a link on the previous site does not open but surfing on main page is ok.

In short a very eratic behaviour. You can not trust it when you need it most.

Please advise.

I would recommend that you purchase a router what is region specific. NA routers may or may not work in your region of the world. DLink does have regional products.

For DSL Modems and connections: If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.
If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.

The only reason why you see an Opps page is that the router is detecting that the source URL is not correct, the router is not getting a complete connection with the web site, the router and or PC is not configured correctly or there is a translation problem between the router and the ISP modem and ISP Services.

Hi guys, I have this same problem with the DIR-601 firmware version 2.00NA

Let me tell you the history of my problem. The router worked perfectly since I bought it in early May from Office Depot, then about three weeks ago I encountered a couple of 404s. I thought this was weird, because the internet was working, it just wasn't working for certain web sites. I figured it was a DNS error and I was going to use Google DNS servers to see if that's the case but it fixed itself and I didn't need to.

Now today a third user in addition to the two usual users of this wireless network has arrived and suddenly this 404 message pops up again. As soon as this third user stopped using the internet, the 404s disappeared. Needless to say, this is really annoying.

I've dealt with a lot of routers and wireless networks over the years and I usually have a decent time. When something goes wrong, there's usually a logical reason for it, say, a lose ethernet cable or something. Here, there isn't really a logical reason.

I'm using cable internet, and my router is attached to a cable modem. When I plug straight into the modem the internet is generally flawless.

Anyways I'm not sure what to do here, I did a cursory look through the settings and checked my firmware but I'm out of options. I hope this problem does not re-occur but if it does then I have preemptively made a post here.
