How to connect another laptop to wireless network?
« on: July 29, 2012, 12:48:51 PM »

Hey guys...i got a Dir-615 N300 few days ago...and it took me 2 days to make the wireless network and connect my HP Laptop to it...now my cousin wanted to use my wireless and couldn't...spent like 3 hours trying different things and nothing...

Basicly...she can see my SSID,but when she tries to connect...it doesn't work...it just...loads...it doesn't ask for the password or anything...

A friend told me that i might have to give her acces in some way...but i have no idea how...i'm not really a PC newbie...but this is a nightmare...i just can't figure it out...it's annoying...Took me 2 days...and somehow i made it by mistake...i have no idea what i did but it worked for my laptop.

Few Details:
My cousins laptop is an Acer with Xp SP2 i think...(while mine is HP with Windows 7)
Security mode WPA-Personal
Cipher Type: AES
Hardware Version: Hx
Firmware Version: 8.02

idk what else to tell you guys, please help me...and it would be great if you could guide me step by step...even if i have to reset everything...and remake the wireless network...

Thank you...have a nice day!

btw i did everything on the http link...not the cd...for some reasons the cd didn't work for me

Link>Welcome!
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?

Link>Wireless Installation Considerations
What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.

Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
Try turning off Short GI, WLAN Partition, and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Maybe you restarted the Laptop. Glad it's working though. Enjoy.
