DCS-930L security concern
« on: April 14, 2017, 02:35:34 AM »

Hi all,

I searched if it has been discussed before, but since I could not find the answer I was looking for, I'm starting a new topic. Sorry if it's redundant!
Please help me better understand the following: is there a reason why the camera led would blink green if no one is watching the video feed?

The camera is connected wireless and the password was changed from default when I first configured it. I did not check what happened after last firmware upgrade performed recently (~3 weeks ago), if it reset that or not, but I assume it shouldn't have (hopefully).

The problem is that during the last few days, I noticed that for short intervals, the led would blink green, although I was not connected.

Another strange thing I noticed after this issue appeared and I started testing more intense, is that if I connected via the mobile app (mydlink Lite), the led would not blink anymore (it stays solid green), as I remember it did in the past. It only blinked if I connected from the laptop, from the DLink account.

Bottom line, I am a bit concerned someone managed to connect somehow, without consent.
Am I overreacting? Is it normal to have this behavior of the camera in certain conditions?

Thank you!

better change all password in the 930L and observer again.
usually, the blinking green should be very short only.

go to www.mydlink.com,
then view your 930L, then click Settings.  you can see that the admin password is stored in mydlink server side.
it is not yet 930L, it is same for all other dlink IP camera.
so basically, you dont put IP camera in bedrooms.

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your DCS? Look at the sticker behind or under the camera.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DCSs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
What wireless modes are you using?
What is the distance between the Camera and the main host router?

I did change both the password to the web mydlink account and the password to the admin account for logon to the camera before I first posted. And I tryied to observe the camera and see what happens.
Today I noticed it blinked again - when I had it in sight it was already blinking and stopped right away (within a seccond or two).

So I logged on to the web account again and I see no additional users created and the password for the admin is still the same...

Sorry if it's a dumb question, but what does that mean - 'expected led behavior'?

When you access the camera, the LED may be blinking to indicate access with the camera. I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

Ok, I'll try it that as well.
What concerns me at the moment is that I was not accessing the camera when I saw the led blinking. It's true that it seems to do this only for 1-2 sec, but still I find it a bit weird if it's not 'a feature' :)
