Hi Everyone,

Need some assistance with a network adapter issue, hoping that someone here has had a similar issue or can offer some trouble shooting assistance.

I recently bought a second dwa 192 network adapter for my second computer, however, upon connecting the dwa and installing the drivers, I immediately encountered an issued with this new product as it would not see the 5ghz wifi network. It can detect the 2.4ghz fine and I can connect to it, however, even with the 2.4ghz wifi I'm still experiencing some issues, mainly that the wifi does not stay connected.

Steps I have taken thus far:

I have returned the first product to the shop and obtained an identical one, same model, however problem still persists. I'm thinking that the issues is to do with windows 10 and not the actual network adapter.

The reason for my belief that the issues lies with windows 10 is that, I have 2 computer set up both side by side and they both have dwa 192 network adapter. When i connect my newer dwa 192 to the old computer it can detect 5ghz and 2.4ghz wifi and doesn't have the issue of maintaining the network. Furthermore, when i connect my older dwa 192 to the new computer it produces the same issue.

I have tried to contact dlink support however, as the issue seems isolated with windows 10 and not the adapter, I'm not able to get any assistance from them.

I have also reformatted the computer twice and reinstalled everything from scratch using the windows 10 in built system as well as another downloading windows 10 and creating a media disk. After each reformat, I have installed the drivers from the dlink official website, and drivers from this forum. None of them seem to solve the issue.

Personally I have a feeling that the issue lies with the driver compatibility and something in windows 10, I can't seem to figure this out as I have an almost exact computer with the exact same dwa 192 working fine. If anyone knows any solution it would be greatly appreciated.

P.S i'm also not able to access my router's admin page using the default IP gateway, not sure if this is relevant to the issue.

Router: D-Link DSL 2890-AL Dual Band Wireless AC1750 Gigabit Cloud ADSL2+ Modem Router

I have also tried to apply this fix: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=66011.msg277278#msg277278 but to no avail.

I do apologise for the lengthy post, but I am starting to run out of ideas and options. Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Link>Welcome!

  • What driver version do you have installed?
  • What region are you located?

What USB v#.0 version is the adapter connected to on the PCs? 2.0 or 3.0. This adapter needs 3.0 USB ports.

Have you disable all Power Management features under advanced under networking for the adapter?

What wireless modes are you using on the wireless router? Mixed modes or single?
What wireless security modes are you using?
What channels are you using on the main host router?
What is the distance between the adapter and the main host router?

Any chance you have a Windows 7 PC to test with?

Seen this issue before with mine. Works well on 7, 10 is problematic. However doing the Windows 10 modification seem to help for me.

Hi FurryNutz,

Thanks for the quick response. I am currently using driver version 1030.12.526.2016, happy to install other driver version, I am currently using this driver as my old computer has this same driver version and works great. I'm located in Australia, not sure which region that falls under, but i'm assuming oceania?

I don't have usb 3.0 on that computer, but neither does my old one, so I didn't figure that that would be the issue?

The only power management feature I have disabled is the one under configure for the adapter itself, and that has been turned off. Is there any other option I should be turning off?

Wireless mode from router is currently set to mixed, have tried to broadcast only single but the issue remains in that it disconnects intermittently, I should add that sometimes I can go most of the day where the adapter does not drop connection at all. However, everytime I reboot my computer it definitely presents the issue and it'll disconnect at least once.

I'm pretty sure I"m using WPA 2, unfortunately as I can't access my router admin page, another issue I"m having, I'm unable to ascertain this.

I switched from channel 1 to channel 3

The distance between the adapter and the router is 10- 12m give or take a couple

Unfortunately I don't have any windows 7 pc available.

You can try the driver from the USA site to see if it does anything differently.
http://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DWA-192

I would unplug the adapter, do a full uninstall, reboot PC, then install this version from scratch.

Channels to use on 2.4Ghz is 1, 6 or 11 or 13 if your in the EU or AU region. 5Ghz, any channel should work if it's not busy or occupied by others.

I would get into a USB 3.0 add-on PCI card for the 192 adapter.

FYI, anyone experiencing connection problems on Windows after updating. Check the in box USB 3.0 cable that came with the 192 adapter. Could be faulty. ::)
