DIR 615 intermittent service (orange power)
« on: May 18, 2011, 06:38:54 PM »

Hey guys,

I'm new to the boards and pretty new to routers as well. I recently bought a D Link DIR 615 router and it's the first one I've set up before.

I've been having a lot of problems with it so far. The setup was fine but since then I keep getting dropped. The power symbol glows orange and the rest of the lights turn off. It kind of happens randomly. Sometimes I'll be on for a while before it drops, sometimes only a few minutes. I've also been getting disconnected from my instant messenger service even without the wireless dropping.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

What ISP service do you have? DSL or Cable?
What ISP modem do you have? Stand alone or does it have a built in router by chance?
How are you connecting to the 615? Wired or Wireless?
What wireless modes are you running? Mixed? Single?
What FW version is currently loaded?
Any cordless phones in the house?

Comcast Cable
I have a Scientific Atlanta modem, stand alone.
I have both wired and wireless connections to the 615 (laptop and PS3)
Not sure what wireless modes I'm running. How can I check that?
Default FW, 5.10
No cordless phones

I would review the routers logs for any entries when you seem to see the intermittent service light during that time frame.

Check the WiFi settings under Setup/Manual WiFi.
I would change the WiFi mode from Mixed to Single mode G or Mixed G and N if you have any supported N.
