Dir 600 errors
« on: February 20, 2011, 07:28:23 AM »

Hello.

I'm using a dir 600 router.

I have 2 wireless clients connected to it:

A desktop PC with a dlink 525 wireless pci adapter, windows 7
A laptop with a Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN (not sure the model, its a old Compaq r3000)

The router has been working faulty

At times, fails to give an ip address to the desktop machine.
Other times when you reconnect, it gives you an ip address, but ping to the router fails (192.168.2.1).
Ping command reports the packets where delivered, but the destiny is unreachable.
You cant see internet in this computer either.
The signal level is between 24 and 36 % in channel 8 (I'm the only one using that channel).
Manually assigning an ip, does not work either.
The password is accepted as good, and you get to connect to the wireless network.
The transmission rate seems to be estable around 54Mbps.

The odd thing is, it WAS working fine in the laptop the last week.

In the laptop (windows XP), the DHCP has failed too, at times it does not respond the lease request at all, but is now working good, leasing an ip every time, so that is not an issue in the laptop at the moment.

Anyhow, the signal level is similar (24% 36%), but the transmission rate drops to 1 or 2 Mbps, and is usually in the 5-11 Mbps mark, which results in low connection speed.
Dir 600 does not allow you to change the Transmission Rate from auto.
WMM, or wireless qos, cant be disabled either.
You can see the internet from this machine, but connection speed is low (3.8MBps, when should be 6MBps).

The firmware is the latest, ( Hardware Version : Bx     Firmware Version : 2.03 )

Spi was enabled at the time of testing. but is now disable, anyhow no rule was set.
Mac address filtering was turned on and off at testing time.
Access point mode is disabled.

Well, the dhcp is leasing an ip to the dwa 525 adapter now, and the adapter is now able to see the network and connect to the internet.

Whatever happened is in the fields of magic, router hijacking or odd wifi interference, as the signal keeps being as strong (around 26%).

Just hope it will keep "magically" working.

will try to post what inssider got about the networks in the sorroundigs, ( this keeps being the only network in the 8 channel).
