Local webservers, can't access
« on: April 22, 2013, 06:13:16 PM »

Hello, I'm new here, I've tried solving the problem on my own and used my crummy google fu to find an answer, but I have been unable too. So I turn to more expertise help.

I have recently purchased a DIR 600L and replaced my old router. However, I'm having LAN Webserver problems. I run a personal forum for my friends, but I also run game development tools that have it's own webserver.

My forum webserver runs on XP and has a static IP
and my dev tools run's on my work computer running Win7 with static IP.
All desktop computers have router set static IP's. Only the mobile devices are staying DHCP.

none of my computers and mobile devices(IOS and Android) can access either the web forum, or my dev tools by way LAN
tools on my work computer: 192.168.0.100:50000
web forum on : 192.168.0.115:8080

If anyone can offer some help. I would super appreciate it.

Link>Welcome!
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems:Double NAT
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.
If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.
Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
For DSL/PPPoE connectionds on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual or under Setup/PARENTAL CONTROL/Set to>None: Static IP or Obtain Automatically From ISP.
Enable Use Unicasting (compatibility for some ISP DHCP Servers) under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
If IPv6 is an option on the router, select Local Connection Only or Disable IPv6 options under Setup/IPv6.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules. Enable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming for routers that have a Media Server option. Disable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming if IPv6 or Media Server is not being used.
Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed
Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP server feature. Tools/Time.

Try using Virtual Server as your configuration to set up connections for web servers...

sorry for the late reply. I've been trying to tinker with your suggestions during the time I can.

Hardware version: A1
Software version: 1.13(recent on the dlink website, not on the forum)
ISP: Telus DSL
Modem: Thompson Speedtouch ST516 v6
The modem is not it's own router. The modem hasn't caused problems with my old 8 year old dlink or the prior Linksys. Both had no problems with local webserver access. The modem has no options as I know of.
I was told an MTU of 1500

Suggestions
* Could not fine QoS, Traffic Shaping, Gamefuel identifiable options.

* DNS Services are off.

* Telus on my service is only dynamic IP address

* Parental controls are off

* Couldn't find unicasting

* DNS Relay is on

* All PC and Wired devices are now reserved IP. they were before, but now my portable test device is too

* All devices are set to auto ip by DHCP

* No IPV6 found on router

* No firewall endpoint independent on the Advance>Firewall&DMZ

* uPnP on, portforwarding has been no problem with it on after testing.

* multicast streaming is on, I do vuze streaming to the PS3. tested with it off and didn't fix the problem.

* Could not find WISH or WPS :(

* WAN Speed options(10, 100, 10/100 Auto)... was on auto so I tried 100

* Set the time zone

* no virtual server option :(

They didn't seem to work. I can't access the webservers still. What I don't get is that Vuze will still stream to my PS3, but I can't use a browser to access a webserver. I must be missing something.

I think you need to get into a router that has more options like Virtual Server so you can configure the network for this operation. I don't think the 600L has this ability. Please review and check out a DIR-636L, 826L, 836L, 845L, 850L, 855L, 865L, 645, 655, 657, 825, 827, or 857 model routers. These have more features and should be able to be configured for your needs.

Good luck.
