Another router to compete with the NG 900 Gb and D-Links DIR-857. The 4500 still reigns supreme.  ;D

http://amplifi.dlink.com/products/DIR-857

Well I am going to be setting up my Asus RT-N66U (which should come in next week) at my dads. Maybe after I get my hands on a 857, I could send it to you and you could give it a try? Thinking about loading dd-wrt on it first (if available by then)

I would be interested in testing that out sometime in the near future and when your ready too. I think were going to be busy playing with routers. Will be nice to gain some experience on other Mfr HW. I know Karl's been chomping at the bit to do something new.  ;D When we do test that Asus, please don't load WRT on it. I'm looking for OEM FW experiences here if possible. I've already had some experiences with WRT on a NG 3700.  ::)

I still have other testing routers handy as well. Even thought they seem like they are becoming generation now.  ::)

Interesting article on new Super WiFi:
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B87wL7scXNdhN2IyYTAwOGEtNDc3Zi00Nzc2LTlhM2ItZDdkYTNmY2NkM2Jm

I don't know if that would benefit certain residential areas.  My neighborhood is congested with 2.4GHz AP's that it affected my throughput so much, I had to move to 5GHz and use powerline for my other devices (360/DirecTV).

What is to happen when the Super WiFi network gets blasted in a neighborhood?  It's going to interfere with the other AP's that people are using.  Not good in my book!

Someone didn't read the article.  :D :D :D

Hehe, just kidding. But seriously, Super Wi-Fi is a Alliance over seen standard using the 802.11u protocol on 470-690Mhz range of bandwidth which is no where near G's and N's 2.4 and 5Ghz. It will interfere with your G and N no more then your 2.4 interferes with your 5Ghz. Now don't get me wrong, there are lots of things it WILL interfere with, heh, just not Wifi. Some cellular tech, and would probably horrible to any cable networks disposed to ingress (AZ I am looking at your).

PS. Hahaha, ****e "having a natural inclination or tendency to something; disposed;" is seen as a bad word. Wow, Dlink knows better slang then I.

I posted a while back about it I believe, anyways the wireless radio died on it :( Everytime I check the display I see the channels going random from 1-800 which is crazy because there's only 11 channels. Oh well RIP DGL-4500.

You still have it? have you turned off the WiFi radio and use it with out the Wifi? You could still use the Router part and connect up say a DAP-1525 to it ;).

Yea its still my baby lol, I will miss that beautiful screen and the epic look of it. I mean I still haven't seen a router that looks that great, It has a WPS button that lights up in blue! awesome! lol I also miss that.. Now on the N56U you press the WPS button and you will never know if it activated -_-. Maybe I don't like change or maybe its that the N56 ain't as cool, but it is definitely faster than the 4500.

I think the 825 can hold a candle to the 4500 and other routers day. Ya it doesnt' have the LCD screen however it's a very fast and solid router. I'm glad I bought a used one on here. Im sure the next gen routers will be even better.  ;D
