Heh cool find. Here is something else I have been playing with. If you log into the router using chrome (other browsers will work, I just haven't taken the time to figure out how) then right click on the page and choose "Inspect Element" it launches the page's elements. One of them is called "Device_Info.shtml" which looks to be the configuration file. And theres interesting things in there. From name's of software designers, to hidden features like "Guest Wireless"? I haven't gone through it all but thought it was interesting.

BTW, I been super busy at work, so sorry if I haven't been posting that much. E3 and all that. Fun!

So anyone have any funny IPv6 stories?

Today I heard of someone trying to bring back their router a year and a half after they bought it because "They don't need it anymore since tommorow is IPv6 day."  ::face palm::

I heard of someone else that called their ISP asking if they could "pick their IPv6 address." He wanted his name;bob. I guess he heard someone the new IP would have letters in them, and he wanted to pick his first before it was taken. Just FYI, none of you out there take IP bob. He has dibs! ::double face palm::

Hmm, well playing the first Infamous and can't say I love it so far, but maybe I will warm up to it. Controls feels like Jet Set Radio but with magic lightening. Just feels weird and under powered. Only on the first level though, so I will give it time.

I'm a traitor.  I bought a refurbed Linksys E4200.

The only reason is that my beloved 4500 wireless can't penetrate 4 walls to our game room.  This one does.  Not great, but enough so that our desktops in that room don't lose signal anymore.

I don't notice any speed difference.  Actually, if anything, it seems a bit slower.  But I probably don't have it configured correctly.  Haven't checked around to see if there's a website that has a sticky like we have here.

The DGL 4500 section of the forums has one of the most interesting and informative information, That's why I always go there. Woot, Ps traitor. You know you will come back to that 4500 -_-. Anyways I heard that router is very good and fast, I want to try one out but I rather wait and see if there will ever be a new gen of 4500 until than I will wait till this one collapse.

One thing that I though of and a few others have done, turn off the wireless on the router and get your self a Wireless AP point that has better range. Some over in the 825 forum says he put on a 1watt AP and is getting a 1/4 mile acre in L.A. I grant you that some built in WiFi isn't the best, sometime and it also depends on the building and other external interferences. However the 4500 is a great router and maybe upgrading the WiFi to an AP that works better would make the difference.

Makes me think of the time when all my networking HW was stand alone...then all the built in routers came out. Itmight be a good thing again to implement that kind of thinking. Use stand alone HW and separate the devices out. I know I'm probably going to have to do that anyways with the new addition to the house were doing. I've got to start planning wired and wireless infrastructure soon.  ::)

Yea, thats the thing about the 4500, it's wireless antenna is a little long in the tooth. Not too much Dlink is going to do about that. They have stopped hardware revisions and firmware improvement on the DGL lineup. It can't keep up with the new MIMO N standards. I see it as a higher end consumer grade router. It has a decent chipset, a stable wireless antenna, and can handle heavy load very well. It also has some configuration options were are a plus. If you really want a Torrent machine though go Buffalo though with dd-wrt. If you want wireless coverage look into Hawkings. Those also have their cons too though. I like the 4500 because its a decent mixture of both.

;) Ya, love the 4500, once i'm done playing with the 825, The 4500 will become the main router again. Going to spend some time next week and planning some network infrastructure for the new addition. Layout and placement. Can't wait to get it all going.

Oh, so you wire a wireless AP point to the 4500?  Dang, I have a Netgear one, too.  I used it as a wireless N to my PS3 but have since wired it.

At some point I will like to try dd-wrt on the E4200 but as of now it's in the WIP stage.
