no 'motion detected events' while recording from Synology
« on: January 13, 2017, 09:47:58 AM »

Hey Guys,
Wondering about my setup - I have a synology server that I have setup to record my 2330L. Supposedly, it will record continuously, at low bandwidth, and then switch to high res on motion detection, but basically its signed in as Admin, as every other account ive tried just says 'authentication failed'.
But since connecting the two, mydlink app no longer sends me motion notifications.
Wondering if the camera 'see's a user is logged in so it wont send the motion notification?
Anyone else use theirs with the synology surveillance station?

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your DCS? Look at the sticker behind or under the camera.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DCSs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
What wireless modes are you using?
What is the distance between the Camera and the main host router?
How many other wireless devices do you have connected to the main host router?
  • Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by that maybe causing interferences?
  • Any other WiFi routers in the area that maybe causing interferences? Link> Use a WiFi Scanner to find out. How many?

Does the camera send notifications if you disconnect from your NAS server?

Test cameras with uPnP and uPnP Port Forwarding both enabled on ALL cameras: DCS Cloud (L) Series Camera Configuration and Mydlink.com

Which Synology device are you using exactly?  Which Surveillance Station software version?

Look in the dlink camera f/w to see if the events that are setup in there are routed to the Synology.

I'm looking in my surveillance station (7.2.4) on my dx2415, did you set detection source to "By Surveillance Station" instead of "By Camera"?  That might free up your events on the camera.   I don't see this option to record low quality and turn to higher quality upon motion detection.  I suspect Surveillance Station might be different across devices.

Im using a DSplay214 with Surveillance 8.0
Im on 2.4ghz (It supports AC but none of the 5ghz bands are shown (I have my 2.4 and 5ghz separated by SSID)) on my Asus AC56U
From what I see - the motion detection is 'handled' by the camera in the SS.
The mode switch i guess is new, and only available if you have multiple streams, but from the recordings I looked it, its a big green box 1280x720, and the upper 1/4 has a small view of the scene. @ h264, the green or static background are both probably the bandwidth really, so I might disable that.

If the surveillance station is overriding the camera event's, then there's isn't much you can do...

I'd advise to just record full stream of the camera, and have the camera send you events.

Surely, you have more than a 1 TB drive in the DSplay214??

yea, apparently there was a bug in the software setup -
I completely disabled the synology server (which has a 5b and 3tb drives btw) and it didnt fix anything. I then reset the camera, and re-established the motion detection, and now things have been fine. I get push alerts on the phone, and the server records everything. It even has a new 'balance' feature that will record in low res, until the motion detection is activated, which will make it jump to HD recording. Pretty nice.

Im using a DSplay214 with Surveillance 8.0

I was finally upgraded to 8.0. Appears slightly faster, but now I'm being blinded and annoyed by the lighter skin.  They can't leave anything alone! And I see no option to darken or change colors. Time to go complain on some synology forum.
