DGL-4500 Reboots reverts to previous MAC Address Filter
« on: June 04, 2010, 06:30:17 PM »

I use MAC address filtering.  I have over 24 devices so I am constantly hitting the MAC address input limt.    I find if more than about 10 device are connected/active to the DGL-4500 the DGL-4500 reboots and reverts back to a really old MAC address filtering list.  I tried rebooting, factory reset , re-saving , basically everything I can think of - but every few days it will reboot and comes up with a really old MAC address filtering list.  I then read in my latest configuration settings and that updates to new list but does anyone know how to totally wipe the memory so I can get rid of really old MAC address filtering list once and for all.    I guess the other question is why the DGL-4500 reboots when about 10 devices connect in the first place.  probably overheating or something. VERY ANNOYING.  Any help much appreciated.

Because it can't handle 10 devices at the same time it overloads it with request. All of them trying to access the internet puts a heavy load on it, so it reboots.

Thanks for feedback.  Any ideas how can I limit the number of internet connections to less than 10 to prevent the reboots?  Why would it accept 24 MAC addresses if <10 can be on at any one time?  Alternately anyone know of a solid device capable of more than 10 connections (Dlink or otherwise)?

It can handle them all but when they all, I was just saying that may be the main reason. May I know what firmware you are on? and may I know how many devices are you connecting to the router?

May I know how do you connect all these devices to your router?

mostly wired through a dlink giga-byte switch (DGS-1016d) connect directly to router and some wireless (mixed b-g-n).

Just curious what happens to the router if you don't use MAC filtering? Does it reboot if all devices are online and doing something with out using the Filters? Just as a test.

Why even use the filtering?  I've often heard its easy enough to get around if you really want to so it doesn't provide that much security.
