I'm having the same problem. I just purchased a DIR-655 Version B with F/W 2.0, so I presume it's DL's latest and greatest. I have it set for b/g/n (which I need to support smartphones and new laptops), always on (no schedules), auto channel scan, auto tx rate, 20MHz width, visible, WPA-personal, WPA2-only, AES encryption, firewall on (SPI and anti-spoof on), WISH inactive, WPS disabled, no filters set up. Everything was working great and I was getting great signal everywhere in my home (-55 to -75dBm).
About two days after configuring it and getting on the air (4-wired and 2 to 4 b/g/n wireless devices), the wireless radio just stopped - a Wi-Fi analyzer picked up about 3 nearby networks with signal strengths of -100 dBm or worse, but zip from this router. All wired devices were all still connected with each other and the Internet. I did a power reset of the router and the wireless connections were all restored. After another 24 hours it stopped again. This time I did a reset from the Admin (web) port and again all wireless connections were restored. This scenario now repeats itself regularly every few hours or so. I performed a complete reset and reconfigured all my settings manually and that has NOT made any difference. The other thing I noticed is that the DIR-655 keeps forgetting the time and date.
The router is sitting on a shelf away from any other sources of heat or interference. I had taken the extra precaution to raise it up a little to ensure adequate ventilation through the (very tiny) slots in the base of the unit. All antennas are installed and positioned properly.
I hope someone responds soon with a fix for this problem or it's going back ASAP. Barring that, any advice/recommendations for a competitive b/g/n unit that works reliably will be welcomed. I don't have time to babysit this or any other router!!!
EDIT: D-Link support had me re-flash the F/W (still 2.0), set WPA mode to auto (WPA & WPA2), cypher to TKIP and AES, and leave everything else default. Wants me to call if it happens again.
