HElp with going from 1.06 to 1.08
« on: November 24, 2010, 01:44:30 PM »

Hi Everyone , I brought my very own NAS , its Rev B and has 1.06 firmware and the 2x500GB drives have been formatted by the past user.

Could someone tell me what are the recommended steps to upgrade to 1.08 ( 1.09 is not usefull in NZ)

Here is my steps I think I should do them in .. ?

#1 Upgrade Firmware via GUI
#2  Factory Reset
#3 Format Drives again ?

What I would do is backup my data, upgrade the firmware and then use as normal - I would not reset to defaults unless I noticed any unusual symptoms - not hibernating, etc., - and a disk reformat is not required.

RAID1 is for disk redundancy - NOT data backup - don't confuse the two.

I'd go with 1,2,3 as you suggested. No harm in resetting now and it saves you have to re-enter your configuration later. Reformatting also gives you the option to choose the file system type.
