DAP-1360 constantly drops internet connection in repeater mode
« on: December 29, 2012, 12:58:46 PM »

hi, im using the DAP-1360 as a range extender (repeater) with WPA2 and DHCP and my internet connection constantly drops. It has been like this for over 6 months. When the internet drops I stay connected to the network and have No IP adress at times. Sometimes takes about 1-5 minutes for it to reconnect, however at times it doesn't reconnect with the only solution being to re-configure the device. I have tried everything from upgrading firmware to using numerous channels. DLINK tech support say its a ISP issue. But my ISP router/modem wifi works in areas of its range. The only areas where WiFi doesn't work is in areas of the DAP-1360. My router/modem is the CISCO dpc3825. Any Solutions or Suggestions to how i can fix this?

Link>Welcome!
What Hardware version is your DAP? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What region are you located?

Link>Wireless Installation Considerations
What wireless modes are you using on the host router?
Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N on the host router?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?

Ok, Lets try this, can you turn off the WiFi on your main host router and then connect the 1360 up wired to the back of the main host router and set the 1360 up has a AP? This would be good to see if the 1360 still exhibits this problem in this mode or not.

How far away is the 1360 from the main host router in repeater mode?

I have the same hardware and firmware version, though I'm currently using mine as an AP.

Make certain the wireless settings for the DAP-1360 (SSID, 802.11 Mode, Channel, Channel Width, Security Mode, and Key) are identical to those on your router. Once it looks like the DAP-1360 and router are connected (wirelessly), log into the DAP-1360 again, and go to the Wireless Setup page. Click on the Site Survey button and location the SSID for your router (it helps to know the MAC address for your router, and you may have to scan a couple of times before it shows up). Select the SSID for your router, and click on the Connect button (bottom of pop-up window). Don't forget to Save Settings.

Let me know if that helps,

Larry ....

I would recommend using Different Channels in AP mode. Being the same channel would cause the wireless not to work.

I would recommend using Different Channels in AP mode. Being the same channel would cause the wireless not to work.

That actually answers one of my questions about AP mode setup. Although I'm using the same channel in AP mode, I don't think it matters in my case, as the DAP-1360 and router are soooo far apart, they shouldn't interfere with each other.

As for the original question, you do agree that the DAP-1360 should be set to the same channel as the router when in Repeater mode?

I believe when APs are running in Bridge or Repeater modes, they need to be on the same channel.  ;)
