wifi speed 5 Ghz question
« on: October 07, 2016, 07:27:17 PM »

My laptop's WiFi connects anywhere from 500 Mbps to 1 Gbps....

So with these new AC5300 and all their glory - will my laptop see faster speeds?  Or do I need a newer laptop, or a special adapter (USB 3.0?)

Or would it be that the one 5 Ghz connection can handle more devices and be faster overall?

Would be a connection rate of the routers wifi and the device coupled with MU-MIMO.
Throughput would be something different as is not the same as the connection rate.

Reading a bunch of stuff on MU-MIMO...(It looks like I've read the same article at 5 different websites..  :o )

I think my only device with MU-MIMO is my Galaxy S7. (?x?)

No D-Link cameras support this yet... so I guess I'll wait.

*edit my Galaxy Note 3 is also 2x2 MU-MIMO.

Reading an article like this - it's implications are not what I'm reading elsewhere... which leads to more confusion...

http://www.windowscentral.com/guide-mu-mimo

Many devices compatible with MU-MIMO will use two or even three data streams at once to connect to the router. For example, if you have a 3x3 MU-MIMO router, you can have a dual-stream device and a single-stream device connected at once. Connect any more MU-MIMO-compatible devices and you're again sharing data streams and experiencing SU-MIMO symptoms, like slow-buffering video and stuttering online gameplay.

So there are MU-MIMO 1x1 devices in the wild?

Do 4 SU-MIMO devices fill a 4x4 MU-MIMO router on 1 5Ghz band?

This is all confusing...  ???

Single and dual streaming maybe seen on some devices, you'll need to check with the devcies Mfr on what they actually support. Only routers are handling MU-MIMO currently. There aren't any client side devices that do MU-MIMO that I know of. MU-MIMO is a router feature.
