USB Configuration
« on: June 18, 2012, 12:11:32 PM »

Howdy,

Recently purchased and installed the DIR-826L.  Everything went smoothly until I added a USB HDD to the router.

I could see it in the router software but never could find it on my network.

Upgraded firmware for 1.0 to 1.01 hoping it would help with that problem.

New firmware does not give me a USB option on the setup menu?

Anyone have this problem or know a work around?

Thanks

Are you using Shareport on the PCs that you want to connect to the hdd on the USB port?

Hey,

Thanks for the reply.

I had sharepoijnt v 1.14 installed but read somewhere that I should be using v 1.10?

Uninstalled 1.14 but cannot find the 1.10?

Thanks

I can only find v1.10 for Mac. You might try v4.00 for PC on the DIR-827 site.

Thanks again.

I did find a v 1.10 for the dir-655.  Same results

Installed the dir-827 v 4.0.  Same results

All versions report - No device servers were found on the network.

Waiting for a response from dlink support.

Will accelerate that with a phone call tomorrow.

Something changed when I loaded the new firmware.  No USB options in the setup menu?

Since you can't go backwards, guess I am stuck.

Thanks

Try a factory reset of the router while Shareport is running and the USB drive is running? Keep us posted.

Don't want to drag this out much farther.

Did as you suggested.  No difference.

Interesting response from dlink tech support.  Was elevated to senior level support.

There is no specific shareport utility for this router.  It cannot be connected through your network, only via mobile apps or http.

If I enter in the browser - http://66.69.108.150:8181, I can see the item on the drive.

I am told that since it is a 'cloud' router, that I can olny see the items, no uploads or downloads?

To add or delete from the usb drive I must disconnect from the router and attach to my pc?

I have trouble with that advice when their ad states this -

USB 2.0 port provides shared access to files from any connected USB drive.  Simply connect a USB drive to the port to create shared storage that can be accessed from any computer on your network. (Drive is not included.)

I don't read into that any reference to using a browser to access the drive. Me thinks there is a skunk in the woodpile.

Hi Carl

If you use http://192.168.0.1:8181 and then use admin/password (This is the admin and password used to log into the router configuration), when the web page opens look to the top right, you will see an icon looks like three dots and three lines. Click on that and the output will change to a directory structure.

From that point I can upload/download/play movies/songs/whatever and create directories, but am still unable to figure out how to delete anything.

As far as setting up users and access that is still located at Setup/Storage on my router

Hope thats what you were looking for

Cheers

Rodger,

Thanks for the assistance.  Much better advice than dlink senior technicians!

Only thing I cannot do mentioned in your advice is to download items.

I can see no menu option to do that.  Right clicking on items gives many options but no way to download.

Any guidance for a slow learner?

Thanks again for the right on instructions.

Carl

I use IE9, however to Download, I have to switch to compatability mode then mouse right click "Save target as" or in Firefox use the "Save lin as" when using the mouse right button. Safari web browser seems to work the best of the three.

I must admit that the web format is a little fussy.

Yes, a lot of things could be done much better in this product. I've connected USB disk LG 2TB, primary used as backup. At the first I was dazzled with user definition, read/write rights, mobile access....and than big fall down ... cannot map that USB drive as local disk and my NERO program cannot access there any more. Browser access is just for the kids, but not for serious product...Not to even mention other things, as disconnecting of media cloud disk every 35 minutes. It become invisible for the smart TV and media player internet radio! I need to shut down TV to reconnect and that is very annoying! I have spent 3 days on different forums, read all connected posts, dlink manuals, help and FAQ with no results. Finally find solution on my own
