Expand RAM Memory
« on: January 18, 2010, 12:28:00 PM »

Is it possible to expand RAM Memory of DNS-323? I browsed D-Link web and I didn't find anything. what is more, in the specs of the product I didn't find its current memory (which Linux commands show to be more or less 62Mb).

So, that's the question: is possible to buy more memory to expand DNS-323 one? Any URL with part numbers and any installation guide?

Thanks a lot,

I suspect it's difficult to impossible.  It's soldered on the board, and there are no provisions for expansion.  Even if you found a higher capacity chip with the same form-factor and pinout, it's not assured that they'd actually try to address it.

There's at least one person who claims to have replaced the memory with larger modules, only to discover that the firmware did not recognise it.

RAID1 is for disk redundancy - NOT data backup - don't confuse the two.

That doesn't surprise me at all.

I am not able to find RAM specifications on D-Link web.
Question is, is there any other model different of DNS-323 with more Physical RAM?

Thanks in advance,

There is only one product line of the DNS-323, but there are a number of hardware revisions.  They may, though I doubt it, have changed the amount of RAM in later versions.  I suspect the hackers that are adding extensions would have discovered that long ago.

Everyone I've seen that has added fun_plug to their configuration and run TOP have found 64mb.
