Firmware differant on US website and what router finds
« on: December 27, 2014, 10:38:07 AM »

Hello all,
I have a DIR-850L router rev B currently running 2.01 FW, located in state of PA in USA
I always upgrade FW only after reviewing release documents, and using the forums recommended guidelines (the 850 replaces a good working 655 rev A) so not new to D-Link.

My question is I am seeing the router finding 2.02 FW available, the US website shows 2.01 I have seeing this for a few weeks. Will the web site eventually be updated?

Also I am correct in assuming the router would download the FW directly to it if I click through h the UI updater (like to have the FW on PC and then update).

Otherwise this router is working very well for our small home network, the new UI takes some getting used to but not too bad. IPv6 through Comcast is working well (router follows a SB6141) and I really like it so far.

Thanks for any clarification and to the forum in general -- Bill

I see it's not posted on any other sites as well. So I presume this is only on the update servers that routers connect to and not posted to the public sites. I'll ask about it and see if there is any information.

I recommend if the router is working well for you now, don't update.

For doing any FW updates please follow this:

Hi Bill,

To clarify your questions, please see my comments:

My question is I am seeing the router finding 2.02 FW available, the US website shows 2.01 I have seeing this for a few weeks. Will the web site eventually be updated?

The internal Firmware checker is pointed to a Global Server that is at times updated sooner than our USA support web site. D-Link USA runs independent lab testing for all released code in our US region, which causes some delays on the process of releasing code to our support web site.

Also I am correct in assuming the router would download the FW directly to it if I click through h the UI updater (like to have the FW on PC and then update).

Router firmware upgrades for the most part are NOT automatic. The link found on the web interface of the router will download the firmware file from the Global Server location to your computer, so that the upgrade process is always controlled by the user. (There are some exceptions with product that are usually connected to the mydlink™ service). Posted downloadable firmware files from our support web site are hosted here in the USA and release notes are part of the downloaded ZIP package.

Hope this clears out your questions, regarding the new firmware, all I can tell you is, it is probably on its way out soon; its good to hear that the current version is working great for you, we don't usually get to hear that side of the story. Thanks for being patient...

Kakashi,

Thanks for your reply, and explanation.

I will look out for the release notes and in the meantime enjoy the router, it is working great so no worries on the timing.

Thank you! -- Bill

Enjoy.  ;)

Update,

Today the firmware was updated to include version 2.02 on the US site compete with release notes.

I have updated my DIR-850L "B" router to version 2.02 (using the recommended procedure) and all seems to be working well.

Thanks to all, and to D-link for their support.

P.S. Furry I do understand your position on FW updating, and to others please be carful and use the recommended procedures, I just like to stay up to date.
