Post by: tnunan on October 25, 2011, 07:18:58 AM
I can't get the Video to record to the SD card, nothing happens. Snapshots record fine.

Firmware is 1.01

I am having the same issue.
DCS-942L firmware 1.01
Video does not record at all and I can only get 1 snapshot per minute.
Hope they fix this soon since it is the only reason I bought this instead of the 932L which currently has a better picture and overall better firmware options.

Based on the reports of another user, updating the firmware will fix this issue. See below:

I upgraded the firmware to 719 successfully.  There appears to be a new check box for turning on the SD card 'SD Management' (unless I don't remember that from before the upgrade).  Unfortunately, there is no revision list from dlink on what 719 does, but the upgrade went well.  Just FYI for everyone. :D

Unfortunately that is the firmware version that I already have

Does the web interface now contain a check box for turning on the SD card "SD Management'"?

Maybe you should try to upload the firmware again and then factory-reset your DCS-942L.
the SD card function probably is working.

 :'(
I bought the DCS-942L and tested today!
When I first installed I got a firmware upgrade request, so no I have:
Firmware Version   1.01
Firmware Build Number   0719

There are 2 things not working so far:
1. Video Clips to be sent by email
2. Video Clips to be stored in the SD Card

--------
I formatted the SD via PC to FAT16 format and then via DLINK DCS-942L format functionality in the SD Mgt and I got "SD Status : Ready"
Now I can see the JPEGs stored in the SD. So when I enable Video Clips.. nothing happens..
So I think there is a bug in the VideoClip functionality as it is the common factor between the problems I am facing.. I tried to reduce the video resolution, encode, bps, FPS...nothing worked!

Maybe you should use the camera format function to re-format your SD Card, and then try again.
As I know, some IP cameras use their appropriate format tool to erase the SD Card, then the recording function can work fine.

When you go to the sd card menu option, does it show the correct size and available free of the SD card? When I formatted my sd card it showed them both as zero. Only when I reformatted it again did it finally show the correct information. Also, what does it say above the size info under SD card state?

I am having the same problem.  Video will not record on SD card.  I can send video clips & snapshots through email.  The 16gb card is formatted and shows the correct size.  Firmware is updated to the latest version 1.01 Build 902.

I am also having this issue. I have firmware: 1.01 firmware build number 0902

I have tried two different micro SD cards and neither are working. Is there a fix or workaround?

****Update 12/12****

I am able to capture picture images on the SD card, but am unable to capture video.

I just got off the phone with Kim from level 3 support and thankfully he fixed it.

The solution is to reinstall software and set all settings to factory settings. Easy solution, but I spent about 4 hours on the phone figuring this out. Hope this helps.

I'm glad everything worked out for you. Sometimes the simplest solutions take the longest to get to.  ;)

I am having trouble as well. I did the firmware update and reinstalled the software and still no video is saved to the SD. Any ideas? I have called customer service and am now waiting for a call back whenever that may be.

Did you perform a hard reset back to the DCS-942L factory defaults? While the camera is on, press and hold a paperclip in the pinhole on the rear of the camera for >5 seconds.

No I did not do that. Will I need to reinstall the the again as well off the CD?

This procedure will wipe all settings from the DCS-942L. You'll need to run the CD Wizard to reconfigure your camera. You may also install (or reinstall) the latest firmware (if you choose).

Should I reinstall the latest firmware do you think?
Title: Re: Video recording to SD Card not working?

First see if the camera functions the way it should with the base firmware installed. If the camera doesn't work properly, then update as needed.

Were you able to successfully reconfigure your DCS-942L?

I'm having the same problem in not being able to record video even though snapshots work fine.

I assume since I can record snapshots the SD card is formatted acceptably.

If I understand correctly, the solution is to factory reset the camera by using a paperclip to depress the reset on the camera and then reinstall from the CD.  I don't want to spend hours with trial and error.

Please confirm.

Thanks

As a first step, you should upgrade to the latest available firmware. Reformatting the SD card and resetting the DCS-942L to the factory defaults is simply a troubleshooting step to rule out a potentially corrupt/incorrect configuration.

As of today, No DCS-943L owners with this issue have come forward on this forum with an absolute fix for resolving this issue. So basic troubleshooting is all we have at the moment.

Thanks for the reply.  I upgraded the firmware as part of th initial install.  I'll try the reset and rerunning the setup over the weekend.  I bought this model because of the recording to SD.  I'd really be disappointed to post that this feature is unreliable on the site where I purchased the camera.

Do you know if this has been escalated to technical support or product development?
Thanks.

I haven't been keeping close watch on this issue. I would suggest calling D-Link technical support since the camera is under warranty. If D-Link provides you with a workable solution, please post on this thread.

Success  ;D

I'm now getting AVIs recorded to SD and snapshots sent to email.

I did the following:
- hard reset of camera by depressing button on back of camera with paperclip.
- reran setup from disk (twice; for some reason it would not see my wireless network the first time)
- turned off microphone and speaker (I got strange results the first time I install and could not get even get good snapshots so I set it off again)
- reformatted SD card (again) using the SD maintenance option.
- set up video and confirmed that was working
- set up snapshot for email and confirmed both email and video worked.

The only other change is I left PIR unchecked.

I had updated the firmware earlier and it did not prompt for another update after the hard reset.  Since it is working, I'm not even checking for firmware upgrades.

My guess is the hard reset fixed the problem but there are other slight changes (like not setting PIR).

This worked for me.  Hope it helps others that struggle with it.

Reinstall the firmware?

So if you are installing the firmware for the first time, you should do the update and then reset to factory defaults?

Updating to the latest firmware and resetting to factory defaults should resolve the issue. I tried it on 2 cameras and I was able to record to the microSD fine.

I did the same ( as recommended by you , Dr DOOM and others.. and i too saw these steps fixed a LOT of weird and different problems.. On Tech Support's advice  I did set Day/Night to MANUAL IR.. that helped it from getting stuck in Nite mode all the time.. and did also  stop trying to send a video clip and a snapshot after each trigger at the same time since it would not do BOTH..  but I'm happy it's working pretty well now and the audio and video in color are very clear.  JimS

I got this error:

Please note that there is no SD Card plugged into the camera or the SD Card is not writable.
SD Recording is enabled.

My sd card is 32gb sdhc card class 4 and the camera just doesn't have a clue of my sd card. I tried with another sd card, 2gb sd card and everything works. Well but the email nothifications. Server doesn't respond but now I'm trying to read sd card. I need to record as many clips as I can because it's for a legal dispute. 2gb is not enough!!

Any clue????

Did you try formatting with your camera?

format on PC first (fat32?), then with camera.

*that is if 32gb is available on this model.
