Title: 2nd hard drive question
Post by: RYAT3 on August 05, 2016, 06:14:28 PM
I didn't see anything in the online manual (which still has F/W 1.xx images  :o )

Before I even bother to plug in a 2nd hard drive - Is it treated as additional storage?  ie, drive 1 fills up, then goes to drive 2 until that fills up, and then back to drive 1 with overwrite?

I don't see any option in the F/W to assign a cam to drive 1 (unless that becomes enabled with 2nd drive?)...

I guess the idea is to put 2 cams to drive 1 and 2 cams to drive 2.

I haven't stressed tested drive 1 yet with 4 cams at 1920x1080 @ 30 fps..

I have an ulta portable WD 3 TB small usb 3.0 drive plugged in....

And how to tell how much disk space is left?

Hello RYAT3,

See answers to your question below:

I didn't see anything in the online manual (which still has F/W 1.xx images  :o )

The site has been updated with the latest manual and there is some work being done to the new version to help clarify some of these functions. Visit http://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DNR-202L (http://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DNR-202L)

Is it treated as additional storage?  ie, drive 1 fills up, then goes to drive 2 until that fills up, and then back to drive 1 with overwriting?

Yes, it is treated as additional storage. Drive #1 first, Drive #2 next and back to Drive #1 if overwrite is enabled. If the override setting is disabled, the recording will Stop after Drive #2 is full.

I don't see any option in the F/W to assign a cam to drive 1 (unless that becomes enabled with a 2nd drive?)...

No, unfortunately, this can NOT be done  at this time. There are no options for camera-to-drive recording assignment.

DNR-202L Recording/Monitoring Performance

For Recording
DNR-202L Maximum recording setting is 1280x720/30 fps/CBR 2M with simultaneous 4 channels Max.

Live video monitoring:
1. One channel : It will display the main profile.(720P 30FPS)
2. Four channel : It will display the secondary profile.(VGA 15FPS)

Hope this information helps you. Let me know if you have any other questions.

It only felt warm when I stacked it on the dnr202l while continously record 1 cam. I have it on 4 cams now. I'll check, but I don't think it is.

I'm not sure why the other guy couldn't get his 1TB drive and model to work.

My small infrared temp gauge says:
western digital: 92F at it's hottest point, 90F otherwise.
DIR 890L power brick is about 90F at hottest point. 86F otherwise.
DNR 202L is running around 86F at it's hottest point, 84F otherwise.

It's probably about 74F inside here.

So it's reasonable to me.
