DWA 160 quit working - bad adapter?
« on: December 17, 2012, 10:21:23 PM »

I had 2 desktop computers side by side with DWA160 adapters. I recently moved one into another room and hard wired it to the router. Now the second computer, still connected by wireless, will not connect to the network.

For the heck of it, I swapped adapters and it worked. I have tried the 'bad' adapters on other computers, and they will connect - actually they connect with limited activity. If I swap adapters, it will connect fine. This is why think one of my adapters went bad.

Both adapters were both purchased at the same time and are DWA-160NA B2, F/W V 2.4.

I am using an ASUS RT-N12B1 router with WPA-Auto-Personal / TKIP+AES security. It is weird that one adapter will work 100% of the time and the other will not work 100% of the time, and changed only after I moved the router.

Any ideas / thoughts / suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I tried turning off all security on the router and nothing changed.

Ensure the drivers are up to date?
Move the router back?
Try using OPEN Wifi security to test? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only.

If the adapter is exhibiting bad behavior in multiple PCs and the problem follows, I would presume that the adapter is bad.

You could ask DLink to RMA it.

Let us know what they say.
