Max number of DHCP reservations
« on: September 10, 2015, 05:44:38 AM »

I previously was using a DIR-827 which let me reserve 25 IP addresses.  But on the DIR-880L I cannot reserve more than 19.   Is this a bug or a new "feature"?

I am going into the connected clients graphic of the new UI, and then tapping the card for the device, and then swiping the switch and entering the IP to reserve.  First 19 go fine, any after that refuse to save.  Also there's no error message to alert you to what's going on at this point, it's a "fake" save.

I believe it should be 25. I'll have a look with mine and see what I find.

The DIR-827 was a good router.  ;D

Yes the DIR-827 was good, the DIR-857 was better.   ;)    I'll miss Ubicom technology, started with them on the DGL-4100.     Since I use these as wired routers only, the DIR-880L is superior and the current champ in wired routing throughput.  I have 40 wired gigE clients going thru it without issues, but I do need 25 to be reserved to avoid drama with those.

If folks are interested, here's a great deep technical review that speaks to the wired routing performance of the 880L - http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-reviews/32500-d-link-dir-880l-ac1900-wi-fi-router-reviewed

Ya the 857 is a good one too. I enjoyed mine as well.

Ya after QualComm bought up Ubi, it's been different.

What are the devices that need reservations? For some devices, the use of Static can be used that's outside of the routers default DHCP IP address pool. Devices like printers, NAS, controllers, APs and devices that don't need much internet access or router management, use static IP addresses.

I'll have a look at my 880L.

Thanks for the link.

Here is the official response from D-link. Max number of DHCP Reservation for DIR-880L and DIR-890L/R is.... <drum-roll>

So far I can get 12. I have to run for the evening so I'll try late to add more.

I did notice odd behavior with my iPhone6P, it would not save the reservation setting. I had to turn OFF the wireless on the iphone before I could get the reservation to stick. Also notice that selecting the X on the reserve window seems slow to close. Takes about 3-4 seconds before the windows disappears.

That should be normal behavior, as the router can not "force" the wi-fi client to renew its IP address. it has be done by the client, it's a quick airplane mode OFF and ON  for most wireless phones.

Have you reached the DHCP limit yet?

Maybe...I've seen it where the client changes to a new IP address. Just seemed that I had to do it a couple of times before the setting took on the router.

Yes, I've reach up to 18 reservations and can't add any more.

Also noticed that my QoS settings I had saved and seem to work yesterday, are not gone and missing. Even the list of devices and the priority sections are not displayed at all. Page is mostly white blank. I'll inform D-link about this.>I found out that IE11, FF and Chrome won't display the QoS correctly however Opera does in Windows 10. Safari in OSX 10.10.5 also displays correctly. Odd.

I've passed this onto D-Link.

Furry,

Sorry, I got a little confused here... so you are saying that the setting are saved, but that IE11, FF and Chrome won't display the correct configuration, but if you open Opera the settings will display correctly?  is the configuration functional if you connect the reserved devices back on the network?

Let us know... Thanks!

They were saved initially yesterday however checking today, for some reason the graphics on the web page do not display at all in the mentioned browsers in windows 10. Only Opera for some reason displays the page correctly. I attempted to add a device to the priority section while using Opera and selected Save and the setting did not save at all.

Having 24 reservations would work for me, I need this for older clients that have had DHCP issues.    The DIR-827 was able to do this many reservations just fine (heck so was the DGL-4100) and I had a happy network.   Since upgrading to the DIR-880L I've lost this and am again having problems with those clients since I cannot get them reserved.  I could look at the LAN side static idea, but where in this sparse new firmware is that feature located?

Despite several reset/test scenarios I cannot get more than 19 entries reserved.   When you view the list of clients the reserved devices that are not currently online are shown in black, where online devices have the aqua/cyan colored outline to their cards.   So I count them all up and the best number I've achieved is 19 before the fake saves start (D-Link seriously you can't add a error message here??).  For those who got to the 24 max (why the -1 from prior models???) how did you go about it procedure wise?

BTW, I can confirm the QoS bandwidth bug as well.   The screen numbers shown are fixed at 8Mpbs download/2Mpbs upload which makes the feature unusable for me with 300Mpbs/20Mbps service (I guess I cannot get to the screen fast enough after the wizard before it locks these fields).  The firmware neither detects my correct bandwidth nor will it let me manually edit it to correct.  Seems hard coded to 8/2.

Are you saying that 1.08 fixes or increases the number of DHCP reservations?
