What if my camera got stolen?

If my DCS-2330L camera is stolen, does mydlink.com maintain any cloud storage of the final contents of the internal microSD card that the images were recorded on?

I don't know for sure however I don't believe D-Link stores any video data. Only association and product information data associated with the user account I think. You might phone contact support and ask about this. Let us know if you find out anything.

While I don't doubt that a decent hacker could get to the configuration file of a camera without knowing the admin ID and password -- security on these things isn't exactly air-tight -- a run-of-the-mill thief wouldn't be able to get at your mydlink credentials without being able to log into the camera.

So your camera is in a not stolen state at the moment. Did dlink have any files or images currently?

I didn't receive a reply from tech support yet..
When my DCS-2330L camera is functioning properly, I can get access to the images/video from mydlink.com
But if I disconnect my camera from power, I see:
"Your DCS-2330L is offline."
on mydlink.com

So, I'd say they don't save anything (images/video) to their cloud.
The "cloud" they talk about appears to be a live internet connection to camera, and/or to the contents of the microSD card inside the camera.
If the connectivity is gone, so is the ability to get at *any* of those images/video.
I may have to rethink my security strategy regarding the use of this camera.

I could try to use the D-ViewCam app and record the stream to a local hard disk or something...
Or write a script to download the files from the SD card to a local hard disk periodically.
But I'll have to do that at a backup rate faster than a burglar could steal my camera :-)

Well if your concerned about theft of the camera, then maybe a better solution would be to not use the SD card and stream to a local server. These particular cameras are mountable however are not fully theft deterrent as they could be easily taken if someone wanted it. A better camera would be to find a surface mount bubble type camera which is harder for some one to steal.

If any Dlink camera looses power or it's internet connection, the default message you get is that the camera is offline.

Does the DCS-2330L support the ONVIF standard for IP cameras, so I can use some 3rd party software to stream/record to a local hard disk?

I am still trying out the D-ViewCam software and playing with the resolution settings, etc,
It's too bad UAC needs to be turned off to get that software to work... I may try to run in in a Virtual Machine and see if that works, so that I don't have to turn UAC off for the whole desktop PC.
