Author Topic: D-Link 890L: Frequent disconnect/reconnect on IOS devices via 5GHZ network  (Read 18393 times)

Hi,

I just bought a new 890L router yesterday and have upgraded it to the latest FW (hard resets has been done according to the guides on this forum).

The issue I have is that when my IOS devices (iphone and Ipad) are connected to the 5ghz bands (SC turned off) they often quickly disconnect and reconnect to the WIFI. Additionally, during device "deep sleep" (during night), the wifi will be disconnected on the IOS devices and will only connect back to the WIFI when I turn on the screen / use the phone. Connecting the phone to the 2.4ghz band does not create this issue.

Does anyone have recommendations on how to fix this? Or is this a recognized bug? I have not tried the SC yet if that would make a difference.

  • What region are you located?

  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • Any other WiFi routers in the area that maybe causing interferences? Link> Use a WiFi Scanner to find out. How many?

What iOS version is currently loaded on the Apple devices?
There has been one report of this with D-Link. They are aware of it. However hasn't been any other reports of it here in the forums.

I have a few Apple devices and all work well with my 890L running same version of FW. However I have SC enabled on my router.

Can you try enabling SC and test?
I also use reserved IP addresses for my devices as well. Try adding some reservations as well.

Not a recognized bug. Many many DIR-890L's globally are in use and many use iOS devices with it. I would suggest contacting tech support in your region to narrow the issue down. Before contacting them be sure to give as much information as possible, how often it disconnects, distance from router, method to determine that it is disconnecting, iOS version etc

There is some information regarding this issue seen by OP. D-Link is aware of it. However, hasn't been much posting about here in the forums, if at all, which would indicate a corner case issue.

Hi all, thanks for the replies.

It seems that I have been able to fix the problem. I did a couple of hard resets, changing SSID names, in addition to setting the 5ghz 802.11 mode to mixed AC/N only. As a result, no disconnections so far.

Thanks.

Glad you got it working. Thanks for letting us know the configuration. Hope it helps others if they encounter this.
Try SC enabled at some point if you can.

Thank you.

Enjoy.

Hi Furrynutz.

I did some further investigating and unfortunately the issue still existed when my IOS devices were not used during a prolonged time, e.g. during sleep. This happened both with SC enabled and disabled.

However, the issue is now solved due to a re-install of the 1.09 FW. Previously, it was installed as an OTA update. I downloaded the FW and did a manual install including hard resets before and after installation. Since I have restored my previous settings (SC disabled) all is working perfectly with no disconnections so far.

Perhaps there was some corruption in the OTA update that resulted in the bug.

Glad it's working now. Might try with SC enabled. I know mine works well with SC enabled with all of my Apple devices...

Enjoy.  ;)

Hi
How do I revert to 1.09? Got some iphones with the same isue. And I noticed that the primary 5Ghz band has very low signal, so I was to go back to 1.09 to see if that helps.

Hi FurryNutz
Sure, why not. I can see that there's a ver. 1.11 as well on the US site, but I'll try the 1.10b07 first.
Thanks.

If firmware 1.10b07 does not work for me, can I just upgrade with the older version 1.09 or how do I downgrade it?

Yes, just do a factory reset, load v1.09 then factory reset then set up from scratch or load a saved config file if you have one from v1.09.
