What maximum WIRED speed can i expect?
« on: February 15, 2017, 01:24:44 PM »

Hi,

What is the max Mbps that I can expect from this router, using the WIRED ports?

e.g. If my Internet downlink is very high speed (e.g. 700Mbps) , what would be the best speed I can expect through the Ethernet (wired) ports of this router?

For example, I have a D-link DIR-615, and the max wired speed I get with it is 100Mbps.

thanks!

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Theoretical could be 700Mb. I haven't see anyone report ISP speed issues however not a lot of users with that reported ISP speed.

Of course, the 615 would only do 100mb as it's ports are only rated at 100mb connection rate thus speed would be capped at 100Mb. 1000Mb is rated as a connection rate on the 855L however speed may not be the same as CPU processing and resources could slow the actual speed down.

Currently my Cable Modem is:
Netgear CM500-100NAS High Speed Cable Modem Docsis 3.0 680mbps Speed

My current service provides me 320Mbps when I connect my computer directly to the cable modem.

I have not received my new D-link router yet, but I intend to install the latest firmware version (1.03B01).

So I can expect no bottleneck from the D-link DIR-855L, right?

I would try the router out of the box first before doing ANY FW updates.

See how it works first. Don't enable any QoS or Traffic Shaping.

Let us know what Rev model you get.

Also use CAT6 LAN cables between the modem and router and wired LAN PC.

It would also depend on the adapter you are using on whatever machine you are using. It could be 10/100 speed, and none of the rest would matter.   :-\

All good.

I confirm that I am able to get 300 Mbps down speed through the wired connection on the DIR-855L.
