Thanks for sharing your info.

Hope we'll hear back from DLink about Save Configuration to File Process.  ;)

If you experience this again, I recommend that you phone contact your local DLink support office and ask for level 2 or higher support. This will also let them know about this.

Thank you.

Furry -- I posted what I believe to be a distillation of our password-loss experiments in this thread, with some further elaboration based on more experiments, in your "FORUM USER REQUESTS and BUGS" sticky.  I hope this is what you had in mind for that thread.  If not, I'll be glad to delete it. -- jclarkw

I don't suppose you ever heard anything back on this?
Its a bit of a pain to have to restore the password nearly every time you save a new configuration file.  I worry about he users who don't realize this... -- jclarkw

It has been reproduced at D-Link and they are working on it. Not sure when the fix will come in. Please be patient.

back again
I'm glad to say that the password is still in place and there are few weeks..

but, today I encountered a new issue: the router didn't recognize the admin password (using remote, over internet); I tried 6 or 7 times and not working :(

I tried to login on usb storage using a standard user (already created by me few weeks ago)
the login was ok, I was able to access storage

after, I tried again to login with Admin on the router and surprise: work perfect, the router know again the password :)
I didn't do anything, only login to storage (port 8181) and after login again as Admin (on port 8080)...

I think aeon07 had said previously that he was using F/W 1.03 on his DIR-645.

In my case, when I upgraded the unit that I had bought in the US (Hardware Version A1, purchased through Amazon but fulfilled by somebody else, I think) from F/W 1.01 to 1.03 ("Current Firmware Time: 10/09/12 18:23:00" -- I hope this is really the latest one!), the option of a "User" password and login disappeared.  I have only the option of setting an "Admin" password on the Tools/Admin page, and on the login page "User Name: Admin" is grayed out and cannot be changed (all of which is OK with me but somewhat puzzling).

Am I missing something here, or has aeon07 got some odd-ball firmware version? -- jclarkw

If he's using the NA v1.03 then this is not supported and could be causing a problem.

v1.04 is new and has been posted for the EU region:
http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/support/product/dir-645-wireless-n-home-router-1000

I recommend following this and trying v1.04 out for the EU region:
 FW Update Process
Do a clean factory reset, send the FW file, factory reset once more then setup from scratch.

Product Page : DIR-645 Hardware Version A1 Firmware Version : 1.03

today happened again
password for admin was not recognized on router web page

I logged to usb storage (as admin, with admin password) and I closed the page
back again to router administration page (where "admin" field is grey) the password works fine
(tried with mozilla and ie, same issue)
so the password stay alive now, but isn't recognized time by time

if I close the admin page, to re-login must follow again both steps, login to storage, close->login to admin page

to be clear, I'm saying about two different router web pages, the standard one for admin setup (where the pass failed) and a second one only for the storage connected to usb router, accessed on the same ip but different port (here the admin account work fine every time)

I see that the firmware 1.04 is available, I will try soon, thanks
only the issue with password bother me, otherwise all is fine, the speed on WAN is more than 80mbps (cable), wireless has good speed (~5-6MB/s), router is stable (Connection Up Time:23 Day 10 Hour 23 Min 36 Sec using pppoe and no restart)

anyway, the router said that there is no firmware update available :) :

Let us know how v1.04 goes for you. It's posted on the EU site

Furry -- All this regional stuff is confusing.  You seem to be saying that the firmware version must be matched to the device (?) region.

Given on-line purchasing from unfamiliar vendors possibly importing directly from China, how do you tell what region your device belongs to?

Or is it sufficient just to use Tools/Firmware/Firmware Information/Check Now to identify the latest applicable firmware? -- jclarkw

Most region HW is specific along with FW due to various regulations regarding WiFi and other items. Usually products purchased in the NA region should be just that, NA region HW, ie. U.S and Canada. I presume that most vendors get there items from DLink directly and would be region specific and correct for that region. Yes, however when you start to deal with online e-tailers like fleabay, Amazon and sites like that, you might run into a gray area where cross region HW is being sold. Most HW has a sticker under the router that has region information, NA or EU or AS or AU. There are a few. This is why I ask everyone who visits where they are located so we can ensure they are using the proper regional FW for there units.

Yes for the most part use the built in FW updater on the HW to check for any updates first. Confirm it with reviewing the main web support web site for the same information as sometimes the updater on the HW doesn't match what has been posted to the web page.

Most HW has a sticker under the router that has region information, NA or EU or AS or AU.

Thanks.  The explanation is very helpful.
The main sticker (white print on black background) on the base of my unit has an FCC number, for what that's worth.
The small over-sticker (black on white), in addition to giving the H/W, original F/W, and S/N, says "P/N:BIR645LNA....A1" -- that's "B" as in "boy."
Is that trailing "NA" what indicates my region? -- jclarkw

Yes the trailing NA is the region. Ya, seen the BIR on other model routers. Not sure what thats about.  ???
