2 "bricked" dir-600
« on: December 01, 2012, 07:01:41 PM »

Well, some story before, I got these 2 routers to "give them a try" (they were having troubles all the time), because the owner was having problem with both of them. These are the problems for each one:

1: Wireless was working good but didn't recognize LAN PCs, (The lights turned green, but the pcs couldn't connect internet, themselves, or even 192.168.0.1), well then I decided to restart it, but then I guess I did something wrong cause now it can't even recognize the wireless. I have tried with the 5 seconds - plug on - 5 seconds firmware upgrade, my pc recognize it for some seconds, and then lost connection so I couldn't upgrade the firmware. Now I can't restart it, all the lights work good, no blue light, but I'm stucked here.

2 As the first router got bricked, I tried with it. All was working fine (Wireless + Lan), then the internet light got yellow and I lost the connection. I turned the router off (by unplugging), and then it got bricked (no restart button at all). Everytime I turn it on, the power light goes green at the moment, no yellow light before, no other lights turns on no matter if I connect a lan cable or the internet cable. I have tried with the firmware upgrade, but the power light keeps green.

I'd be glad if you can help me.

Try this:
Emergency Recovery Mode

Use a wired LAN cable connection for this only.

If this fails you'll need to RMA these units back to DLink.

Thanks for your answer. I did all it says in the tutorial, a FW update to 2.05 in my dir-600 b2, and now it works fine in lan and internet,  but still can't access the wireless. When there aren't any passwords to connect to the wireless, it gives me a straight "Can't Connect" in my laptop. But when I create a password for the wireless (accesing via LAN), when I try to connect to it, I have to write the password, and AFTER that, again the "Can't connect" message.

Didn't change anything among the passwords after the fw upgrade. Any ideas?

Thank you again for the last reply, it really helped.

What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8 or 9, set compatibility mode and test again.
Log into the ADMIN drop down if there is one on the routers web page. Don't use USER.

Setup/Wireless/Manual:
Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.

Well, I'm using FF, but I can't connect to the wireless network, so I don't think that counts :C.

My wireless adaptator is an 802.11n, so I configured the router via LAN in that mode (Only N), also changed the width to 20 mhz and changed the channel to 11 (as you said in single mode N). Removed all the security.

And still can't connect to the wireless network :/.

Tried with cellphones too, and can't connect too.

I would phone contact DLink support and see if these units can be RMAd.

Thank you, but these routers had always had problems, because the owner (my dad) used to "reset" them all the time unplugging the power source and plugging it again without waiting even 10 seconds. If I could make them work, I'd keep them, but I guess I'll buy another D-Link router just for myself.

Thank you anyway, you really helped me.

Ok, good luck. Let us know what you decide to go with. Other good DIR series routers out there.
