DAP-1350 Wireless N Router Printer Setup question
« on: February 09, 2012, 02:59:08 PM »

Hi
Sorry, I know this is not the place to ask a question about the DAP-1350, but there is no specific category for it but it is a wireless N router, so I just put it under this category.

Ok...I have a Canon MP4200 Network printer which I'd like to connect to the wireless network  and because its in a different location from the router I cant directly plug it into the main router (Netgear WNDR3700).

I purchased the DAP-1350 to hopefully help me do this.
I setup the DAP-1350 on client mode and it wireless connected to my main router (Netgear WNDR3700)
I plugged in my printer via ethernet cable to the DAP-1350.
This worked at first, (I had the printer on dynamic IP and found the printer IP address on my network).  However, the IP address changed on my printer (being dynamic IP I'm guessing was the reason) and now wireless printing doesnt work.

Should I be assigning the printer a static IP?  If so, can someone please let me know on how I would find out what IP address, subnet, gateway etc I would enter on the printer to make it static?

Is this the best method to setup a wired network printer for wireless network printing?

Just a small Note:  The DAP-1350 has a Shareport which I chose not to use becaue I would have to make sure that anyone who wanted to print on the wireless network would have to have the specific dlink shareport software installed.  I feel this would be more of a hassle and some of the laptops are macs and the shareport software isnt compatible.

Thanks for your help!

Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the host router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
