DIR-895L Slow Copy File Over Wireless
« on: December 05, 2016, 10:59:54 PM »

Hi, i use DIR-895L and DWA-192, Windows 10 64 bit.
i Plug 1 TB harddisk WDC in USB 3 port. When i try to copy it over Ethernet Gigabit, it reach arround 50 MB/s
but when i copy it over Wireless 5 Ghz, its just ~18 MB/s

i've try firmware : DIR-895L_REVA_FIRMWARE_1.11.B04_WW, DIR-895L_REVA_FIRMWARE_1.12.B10, but copy file still slow
i try to put usb sandisk extreme pro which is fast than my hdd, but speed still ~18-19 MB/s
and i've try to tweak channel, unfortunately still no luck.

my DWA-192 got 1,3 Gbps, is it normal i got throughput just 18 MB/s ?

i bought this 5300ac flagship router to make some transfer files over wireless network fast than other router. but seem there is bug or something wrong.
anyone can help or share trick to make this router faster like other flagship router? :)
user 895L do you ever got maybe ~50 MB/s or faster when use it?

Just to compare, Here is testimoni user ini ama***, he use As** RT-AC5300 got  ~90 MB/s

Links** EA8500 AC2600 + Killer 1535 wifi card can get throughtput 80 MB/s
https://www.pcper.com/reviews/Networking/Killer-Wireless-AC-1535-Review-MU-MIMO-Era-Begins

And this video review got ~50 MB/s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cU5YkW3KbZ8

C'mon, DIR-895L should faster than just ~20 MB/s, please help me how... :D

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?

Is Smart Connect enabled or disabled when your copying files from the USB drive?
Are other devices connected to the wifi on the 895L while your copying files from the USB drive?
What are the speeds seen if you copy files from a network share on a PC or a NAS drive that's Gb LAN wire connected to the 895L?
How far away is the 192 adapter from the 895L when you copying files? Any building materials between them?
  • Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by that maybe causing interferences?
  • Any other WiFi routers in the area that maybe causing interferences? Link> Use a WiFi Scanner to find out. How many?

Is the USB drive attached 3.0 or 2.0 compliant?

I am from Indonesia.
Smart Connect enabled and disabled, speed still same ~18 MB/s.
It just hdd 1 TB external USB 2.5 WD Passport Connect to router, speed normal if i connected to Laptop ~70 MB/s, and my 3 handphone,
but its doesnt stream or copying any files.
The speed when i try GB LAN wire stuck in ~50 MB/S, tried use 3 different devices, HDD WD passport usb 3.0 2.5, Flashdisk Sandisk Extreme Pro, and SSD Samsung 850 evo that i put in enclosure (usually my ext ssd reach ~400 MB/s when connect to USB 3.0 in my ROG Laptop).
DWA-192 and DIR-895 just 3 meter and there aren't any materials between them.
there aren't any APs near my house, tried wifi analyzer, clean.
USB drive attached 3.0 off course :)
I use Indihome provider.

So what is the speed if your test PC with the 192 adapter is connected to the 895L and you have a network share on a wired LAN cable PC thats connected to the 895L and you copy a file from this network share to the PC with the 192 adapter?
What is the speed of the PC if you disconnect the 192 adapter and use it's on board wifi adapter to the same GB wired PC with the network share?
Whats the speed of the copy file if you connect the 192 to a different router? If you have one by chance.

i just have another old router N 300 Mbps

So is the Atheros adapter connect to the 895L and copying files from the wired Gb PC that has a network shared configuration?

Yes, Atheros AR946x Wireless Network Adapter onboard connect to 895L and wired GB connect to 895L too via cable:D

And when you connect the 192 adapter your seeing only around 14Mb using that same configuration?

If so this seems to point to a problem with the DWA-192 adapter and not a 895L issue as you've tested a different adapter with the 895L and you can get around 70Mb.

i got 70 MB/s when i use Gigabit cable from laptop to router, but when i just use DWA-192 speed ~18 MB/s, when use onboard wifi speed ~12 MB/s.

maybe i dont understand your clue/command before, i connect wifi and ethernet together, i am sorry

the problem is : wireless speed so slow, use ac adapter speed ~18 MB/s <-- bad.. use onbord N adapter ~12 MB/s
but when use gigabit gable over ethernet, speed ~70 MB/s <-- good

Getting confusing here.
When testing, the network Share PC is a separate PC that always wired Gb LAN cable to the back of the 895L. This is your point of copy from and use this to test the speeds first. You do have a 2nd PC to test with?

This is the config of what I'm talking about.

1. Network Share PC>Gb Lan wired to the back of the 895L<895L>Wireless connect to the DWA-192><192> connected to your laptop or 1st PC to copy files from Network share PC to this PC. What are speeds seen here
2.  Network Share PC>Gb Lan wired to the back of the 895L<895L>Wireless connect to the onboard wifi adapter><Atheros> onboard adapter your laptop or 1st PC to copy files from Network share PC to this PC. What are speeds seen here
BE SURE TO turn OFF or disconnect the 192 adapter when testing the Atheros adapter and disable or turn OFF the Atheros adapter when testing the DWA-192 adapter. Don't test them while they are enabled at the same time.

i tested copy file from hdd and flashdisk that connected to usb 3.0 router port. i think it same simulation with share PC because they are different result when i tried copy file from wireless ac, n and gigabit cable.

ok tomorrow i will try to copy files from another PC to my laptop via Gigabit LAN. hope get different results :)

Need separate PC to help test this.

Let us know how it goes.

I tested my 192 with my 890L on Windows 7x64.
I was able to get it connected:

Doing a 800Mb file xfer from my NAS directly connected to the back of the 890L I saw this speed on the read:

I remembered that my PC was using USB 2.0. SO this was the result of using 2.0 for the 192 adapter.

I remembered that I had a USB 3.0 PCI card installed however did not have the drivers installed. I found the drivers and was able to connect the 192 adapter using 3.0. The only thing is that I could not test the 192 adapter in line of sight so I was about 20 feet away from the 890L with a partial wall and a monitor in between. It was connecting at 975Mb as the adapter had to be moved closer to the PC where I had it sitting while on USB 2.0 with my extension cable. I don't have a USB 3.0 compliant extension cable yet.
I did another Read from the NAS and saw same thing with around 25Mb on the read speed. I wish I had a 3.0 USB compliant extension cable.

After all this, I presume that there maybe a speed issue between the drivers on the 192 and the 89xL wireless drivers maybe. Not sure what kind of speed tuning D-Link put in to the drivers. The 890L has same drivers I believe that the 895L has, just more stuff to get the 5300 rating vs 3200 on the 890L. I also think there maybe some Windows OS play as well.

Ill see if I can pick up a USB 3.0 extension cable and bring out a non-D-Link 1900AC class router that's got OpenWRT loaded on it and see if there is any differences.

Ok so I got a USB 3.0 compliant extension cable for the DWA-192 and set up my non-D=Link 1900AC class router with OpenWRT loaded on it.
I was only able to see about 30-32Mb Read from my NAS directly connected to the back of the host router:
