FEATURE REQUESTS:
1. Wireless Repeater/Bridge mode (not just ethernet bridge)   i.e.: My primary & secondary router both are 3 band.  I would like to use one of the two 5GHz bands as a dedicated wireless repeater & then use the other two bands to transmit the normal 2.4 & 5G signals.  I currently have my primary connected to an older 1750 class router set up in media mode & sending a LAN line to my 895L in repeater mode which then transmits the wifi signal.  I would like to remove the 1750 class router from my structure.
Currently the 895L only supports Router mode or Extender mode, which I believe is a form of repeater. Extender mode was reported not working as intended however maybe in more recent FW updates. I don't have this model router so I don't know for sure if it works or not. D-Link routers don't have the ability to separate a radio for extender mode and the use the others in AP mode. That is not technically feasible as signals that close would not work right on the same unit. The 895L also doesn't support wireless bridge mode and I presume from it's intended design, won't in the future. The 890L, 880L and 868L support wireless bridge mode.

2. AFP & NFS support (OS X users still struggle with apple's poor support of SMB)D-Link reserves these protocols for there NAS products.

3. Allow more IPs to be assigned with DHCP.  I have 36 network devices with smart devices included now.  Currently, another router has to manage the IPs.
This as been a long time standard held by D-Link. I don't know why they don't allow for more. Seems only logical to have more since the average home gets more devices per user. The only thing I recommend when using a D-Link router and when it comes to reservations, take all of your non essential devices that doesn't need much or any router management, set input Static IP addresses ON those devices that are out side of the main host routers DHCP IP address pool 192.168.0.100 thru .200, Devices like printers, NAS, cameras, streamers, controllers and any phones or PCs. Put these out side the pool with static IP addresses. (192.168.0.2 thru .99 or 192.168.0.201 thru .254) This will free up your limited reservation pool on D-Link routers for more important devices like game consoles, phone, pads and PCs that need router management and controls. Bugs
1. Fix 5 Ghz Speed Copy File over Wireless, between router to PC, or PC to PC connected to DIR-895, that use AC wireless Adapter, Speed should be ~70-80 MB/s, but in firmware 1.12.B10, speed stuck in ~20 MB/s. Used Intel 8265 AC Mimo card, and DWA-192 USB 3.0, still ~20 MB/s.
Hope Dlink can make this potential wireless speed come out like the other Flagship Router this year, please make new firmware to fix it :)

2. Fix Speed WAN, i use 20 Mbps internet. Sometime when light out, Router restart and speed become ~9 Mbps, i should restart it 2-3 time then it become normal ~20 Mbps again. very weird.

I'll add this to the list of items for review by D-link.

Lets trouble shoot this one. Your the first who's reported that WAN speed testing is slow. We need to narrow this down more to figure out if this is a router problem or something else, i.e. ISP service, ISP modem or cabling. Nobody else has reported problems on the WAN side so we can't say it's a bug at this time. Please start an new thread regarding this WAN speed that your seeing.

I've had this router for over a month now & the repeater actually has worked well.  I, unfortunately, have three routers to make my network work: ASUS RT-AC3200 is my primary router, kicking out a 2.4GHz, 5GHz Low (which is dedicated to the second router), & a 5GHz high. The second router is an older RT-AC66U which runs in media mode...it dedicates the 5GHz connection with the primary router, but the 2.4 is not kicked out as a repeater, so I turned it off using SSH to cut temps & reduce interference.   Finally, the 895 connects to the 66U via LAN & is set up in repeater.  I have had zero issues, apart from the extra electricity used.

Mesh does this same thing internally.  Basically, the dedicated 5GHz line becomes the "Backhaul" & keeps the network from halfing.  Unlike my setup, it can utilize the other two bands.  (My 3200 can't act in wifi repeater, just the 66u, but that half's the speed regardless).  Because I actually use the USB 3.0 & it operates faster than the 1GB ports, I use that for my hard drive.  If I used Netgear's mesh, I would still be stuck with three devices because I would need an additional router for the USB 3.0 port.

Basically, if this router were programmed right, it could act as a mesh router: dual band with a backhaul to connect to the others.

Sounds like the Extender mode has been fixed then.

Ya, these routers are home class routers so any other features beyond that, just not really needed on them.

Glad it works for you. Thanks for posting.

Enjoy.

Most home class routers don't support this feature. Mostly seen in business or enterprise class routers.
Please add the ability to define a static route out the LAN interface.
