Title: DIR-895L Slow Copy File Over Wireless
Post by: herv on December 05, 2016, 10:59:54 PM
Hi, i use DIR-895L and DWA-192, Windows 10 64 bit.
i Plug 1 TB harddisk WDC in USB 3 port. When i try to copy it over Ethernet Gigabit, it reach arround 50 MB/s
but when i copy it over Wireless 5 Ghz, its just ~18 MB/s

i've try firmware : DIR-895L_REVA_FIRMWARE_1.11.B04_WW, DIR-895L_REVA_FIRMWARE_1.12.B10, but copy file still slow
i try to put usb sandisk extreme pro which is fast than my hdd, but speed still ~18-19 MB/s
and i've try to tweak channel, unfortunately still no luck.

my DWA-192 got 1,3 Gbps, is it normal i got throughput just 18 MB/s ?

i bought this 5300ac flagship router to make some transfer files over wireless network fast than other router. but seem there is bug or something wrong.
anyone can help or share trick to make this router faster like other flagship router? :)
user 895L do you ever got maybe ~50 MB/s or faster when use it?

Just to compare, Here is testimoni user ini ama***, he use As** RT-AC5300 got  ~90 MB/s
(http://i.imgur.com/lmTL8oB.jpg)

Links** EA8500 AC2600 + Killer 1535 wifi card can get throughtput 80 MB/s

And this video review got ~50 MB/s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cU5YkW3KbZ8 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cU5YkW3KbZ8)

C'mon, DIR-895L should faster than just ~20 MB/s, please help me how... :D

Is Smart Connect enabled or disabled when your copying files from the USB drive?
Are other devices connected to the wifi on the 895L while your copying files from the USB drive?
What are the speeds seen if you copy files from a network share on a PC or a NAS drive that's Gb LAN wire connected to the 895L?
How far away is the 192 adapter from the 895L when you copying files? Any building materials between them?

Is the USB drive attached 3.0 or 2.0 compliant?

I am from Indonesia.
Smart Connect enabled and disabled, speed still same ~18 MB/s.
It just hdd 1 TB external USB 2.5 WD Passport Connect to router, speed normal if i connected to Laptop ~70 MB/s, and my 3 handphone,
but its doesnt stream or copying any files.
The speed when i try GB LAN wire stuck in ~50 MB/S, tried use 3 different devices, HDD WD passport usb 3.0 2.5, Flashdisk Sandisk Extreme Pro, and SSD Samsung 850 evo that i put in enclosure (usually my ext ssd reach ~400 MB/s when connect to USB 3.0 in my ROG Laptop).
DWA-192 and DIR-895 just 3 meter and there aren't any materials between them.
there aren't any APs near my house, tried wifi analyzer, clean.
USB drive attached 3.0 off course :)
I use Indihome provider.

So what is the speed if your test PC with the 192 adapter is connected to the 895L and you have a network share on a wired LAN cable PC thats connected to the 895L and you copy a file from this network share to the PC with the 192 adapter?
What is the speed of the PC if you disconnect the 192 adapter and use it's on board wifi adapter to the same GB wired PC with the network share?
Whats the speed of the copy file if you connect the 192 to a different router? If you have one by chance.

So is the Atheros adapter connect to the 895L and copying files from the wired Gb PC that has a network shared configuration?

Yes, Atheros AR946x Wireless Network Adapter onboard connect to 895L and wired GB connect to 895L too via cable:D

And when you connect the 192 adapter your seeing only around 14Mb using that same configuration?

If so this seems to point to a problem with the DWA-192 adapter and not a 895L issue as you've tested a different adapter with the 895L and you can get around 70Mb.

i got 70 MB/s when i use Gigabit cable from laptop to router, but when i just use DWA-192 speed ~18 MB/s, when use onboard wifi speed ~12 MB/s.

maybe i dont understand your clue/command before, i connect wifi and ethernet together, i am sorry

the problem is : wireless speed so slow, use ac adapter speed ~18 MB/s <-- bad.. use onbord N adapter ~12 MB/s
but when use gigabit gable over ethernet, speed ~70 MB/s <-- good

Getting confusing here.
When testing, the network Share PC is a separate PC that always wired Gb LAN cable to the back of the 895L. This is your point of copy from and use this to test the speeds first. You do have a 2nd PC to test with?

This is the config of what I'm talking about.

1. Network Share PC>Gb Lan wired to the back of the 895L<895L>Wireless connect to the DWA-192><192> connected to your laptop or 1st PC to copy files from Network share PC to this PC. What are speeds seen here
2.  Network Share PC>Gb Lan wired to the back of the 895L<895L>Wireless connect to the onboard wifi adapter><Atheros> onboard adapter your laptop or 1st PC to copy files from Network share PC to this PC. What are speeds seen here
BE SURE TO turn OFF or disconnect the 192 adapter when testing the Atheros adapter and disable or turn OFF the Atheros adapter when testing the DWA-192 adapter. Don't test them while they are enabled at the same time.

i tested copy file from hdd and flashdisk that connected to usb 3.0 router port. i think it same simulation with share PC because they are different result when i tried copy file from wireless ac, n and gigabit cable.

ok tomorrow i will try to copy files from another PC to my laptop via Gigabit LAN. hope get different results :)

I tested my 192 with my 890L on Windows 7x64.
I was able to get it connected:

Doing a 800Mb file xfer from my NAS directly connected to the back of the 890L I saw this speed on the read:

I remembered that my PC was using USB 2.0. SO this was the result of using 2.0 for the 192 adapter.

I remembered that I had a USB 3.0 PCI card installed however did not have the drivers installed. I found the drivers and was able to connect the 192 adapter using 3.0. The only thing is that I could not test the 192 adapter in line of sight so I was about 20 feet away from the 890L with a partial wall and a monitor in between. It was connecting at 975Mb as the adapter had to be moved closer to the PC where I had it sitting while on USB 2.0 with my extension cable. I don't have a USB 3.0 compliant extension cable yet.
I did another Read from the NAS and saw same thing with around 25Mb on the read speed. I wish I had a 3.0 USB compliant extension cable.

After all this, I presume that there maybe a speed issue between the drivers on the 192 and the 89xL wireless drivers maybe. Not sure what kind of speed tuning D-Link put in to the drivers. The 890L has same drivers I believe that the 895L has, just more stuff to get the 5300 rating vs 3200 on the 890L. I also think there maybe some Windows OS play as well.

Ill see if I can pick up a USB 3.0 extension cable and bring out a non-D-Link 1900AC class router that's got OpenWRT loaded on it and see if there is any differences.

Ok so I got a USB 3.0 compliant extension cable for the DWA-192 and set up my non-D=Link 1900AC class router with OpenWRT loaded on it.
I was only able to see about 30-32Mb Read from my NAS directly connected to the back of the host router:

sory for late reply

i connect PC2 to DIR-895L via Gigabit Ethernet, and PC1 connect DIR-895L via DWA192, copy file 880 MB speed ~20 MB/s.
yesterday intel 8265 AC adapter came from aliexpr** and i change my atheros N laptop, got around ~20 MB too  :-\

please someone here that use 895L can share your real throughput copy file via wireless AC from router or other pc that connected gigabit cable to your PC, what is your speed? maybe i need to change my firmware, setting etc? or i have defect unit?
this ~20 MB/s speed i think is not good performance from DIR-895L + DWA192 / intel AC 8265  :'(
Title: Re: DIR-895L Slow Copy File Over Wireless

For wired Gb , I've seen up to 90Mb on file xfers between my PC and NAS thru D-Link routers:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B87wL7scXNdhTHM4UEtnRExRTFk/edit?usp=sharing (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B87wL7scXNdhTHM4UEtnRExRTFk/edit?usp=sharing)

Wired should be always faster than wireless. Wireless will not be as fast as wired GB. The two speeds I saw between my 890L and the non-D-Link routers indicate that there maybe an issie with the router wifi drivers.

I presume D--Link support should be made aware of this issue so they can check it out as well. Maybe they can help on this.

Theres a new build of FW on the 890L that seems to have resolved some issues. I need to load it up and re-test with the DWA-192. Not everyone may have a DEA-192 to test with so results may differ with other Mfr wifi devices.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. Reference this forum thread as well. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

Kind of hard to compare this Killer adapter with the DWA-192 and a Linksys router. Uses different drivers. One would need to test the Linksys with DWA-192 and Killer with the 895L to see.

The Killer adapter appears to connect at 867Mb where the 192 supports 1300Mb, however the Killer adapter support MU_MMO where the 192 doesn't. I presume the MU-MiMO on the Killer and Linksys router is where the speed is seen.

So I figured I'd try the 192 on my Mac Mini that I recently updated to Sierra 10.12.1. I had also connected my good ol DIR-868L v1.12 FW up as the main host router to help another user out with some testing. I loaded the 192s Mac drivers and got it connected and figure that since it connected well, lets try some xfers from my NAS. Connection rate reported by the 868L wireless menu said 600Mb at 100% signal. Not sure how accurate that is since the drivers on this router are a bit older.
This is a 800Mb file:
(http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa396/furrynutz740il/Screen%20Shot%202016-12-10%20at%201.43.53%20PM_zpsq4dtvr8j.png) (http://s1195.photobucket.com/user/furrynutz740il/media/Screen%20Shot%202016-12-10%20at%201.43.53%20PM_zpsq4dtvr8j.png.html)

This is a 4Gb file:
(http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa396/furrynutz740il/Screen%20Shot%202016-12-10%20at%201.44.13%20PM_zpsvo6ftmy3.png) (http://s1195.photobucket.com/user/furrynutz740il/media/Screen%20Shot%202016-12-10%20at%201.44.13%20PM_zpsvo6ftmy3.png.html)

Both speeds were not constant however achieved these speeds and hung around or near during the read from the NAS. Well, at least with the 868L, looks like the 192 can achieve higher than 15-20Mb.

I have new FW for my 890L and it's been loaded. Soon has I get some time I'll retest the 192 and the 890L out.

I loaded a v1.10 b7 Beta FW for my 890L and did a Read file copy from my NAS. 192 is still hitting 70Mb. Speed isn't constant however fluctuates around 40-60Mb. Good speed for a 4Gb file. I'll re-test with Windows 7 again.

Title: Re: DIR-895L Slow Copy File Over Wireless

I don't have the 895L so I can't test it to be sure however I can only presume that the drivers on the 895L and the 890L are same code base, however do differ since the 895L is geared differently in regards to the speeds and MU-MIMO. This maybe a factor. Also the drivers on the 895L may have similar problems as reported on the 890L. Which now seems fixed.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. Reference this forum thread.  We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.

WAN speed problem: Lets trouble shoot this one. Your the first who's reported that WAN speed testing is slow. We need to narrow this down more to figure out if this is a router problem or something else, i.e. ISP service, ISP modem or cabling. Nobody else has reported problems on the WAN side so we can't say it's a bug at this time. Please start an new thread regarding this WAN speed that your seeing.

I'm following up on this with test results from Windows 7 and 10:
Connection rate in Windows 7 and 10 with the DWA-192 and my DIR-890L with smart connect enabled:
(http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa396/furrynutz740il/Windows10ConnextionRate_zpsrejbagn7.png) (http://s1195.photobucket.com/user/furrynutz740il/media/Windows10ConnextionRate_zpsrejbagn7.png.html)

Read speed from my DNS-345 and Windows 7:
(http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa396/furrynutz740il/Windows7_DWA192_DNS345_READ_zpsyv5ngkt7.png) (http://s1195.photobucket.com/user/furrynutz740il/media/Windows7_DWA192_DNS345_READ_zpsyv5ngkt7.png.html)

Read speed from my DNS-345 and Windows 10:
(http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa396/furrynutz740il/Windows10_DWA192_DNS345READ_zpsa9msfobx.png) (http://s1195.photobucket.com/user/furrynutz740il/media/Windows10_DWA192_DNS345READ_zpsa9msfobx.png.html)

I would say there is some speed differences seen between Windows and Mac OSX.

The DWA-192 remains connected with the DIR-890L. I am seeing a problem with this same adapter and a non D-Link router and it not remaining connected with Windows 10.  ::)

i use Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, Intel 8265 AC MU-MIMO 867 Mbps, DIR-895L, all latest driver,  and tried this tune :
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-networking/very-slow-200kbsec-file-copy-between-win7-machines/b8736b1b-0a91-4567-ba33-215084ffc906 (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-networking/very-slow-200kbsec-file-copy-between-win7-machines/b8736b1b-0a91-4567-ba33-215084ffc906)

1. Running as Administrator in Command Prompt, type: "netsh int tcp set heuristics disabled"

2. Next, follow the instructions that Amrita wrote above.

First enter: "netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled" and reboot.

Then enter: "netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal" to restore it to the typical setting.

3. Finally, go to Control Panel > Programs > Turn Windows Features on or off > and check "Simple TCPIP services (i.e. echo, daytime, etc.) so that it is enabled.

4. Reboot your system again, and the file transfer rates should be excellent.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Speed improve from ~20 MB/s to ~30 MB/s, maybe Dlink can fix/improve firmware to make this faster like we use Killer 1535 adapter card..

will try this in Windows XP :)

Hi, so i got ~30 MB/s when i copy from WD Passport (hdd ext 2.5) that connected to DIR-895L USB 3.0 port.
I tested again connected my Vaio notebook that connected Gigabit Wired to DIR-895L and copy file from vaio to ROG laptop (Intel AC 8265 ) over wireless,, i got ~65 MB/s,, wow  ;D
i believe speed should be faster again because its old Vaio ;)

so my little conclusion :
1. DIR-895L USB 3.0 speed is not too fast, just stuck around 30 MB/s, dont expect too much from it if you wanna great speed
2. Connect your storage/NAS to Gigabit port and copy from it if you want full speed
3. Some Windows 10 user that got stuck speed, need some tweak/tune from my previous post ( Windows Problem )

will post screenshoot

i'm waiting my Synology NAS come, and will report again here :)

I'll give this tweek a try and retest with my NAS and the 192.
It kind of makes sense that Windows maybe playing a part in the slow down as when I tested with Mac OSX Sierra, I saw ~70Mb when the 192 was connected there with my 890L.

Title: Re: DIR-895L Slow Copy File Over Wireless
Post by: FurryNutz on December 21, 2016, 09:07:27 AM
I would submit a support ticket on this with your regional D-Link support site and reference this forum thread. I may do the same for the 890L. This seems to be and issue with the DIR-895L and DWA-192 and Windows 7 and 10.

CMIIW

will post screenshoot

i'm waiting my Synology NAS come, and will report again here :)

There was new firmware released on the support site on 1/13/17 for the DIR-895L/R. If you haven't already, I would give that a try. Definitely let us know if it still hasn't helped.

I Have also brought the other issues to the attention to my group and am awaiting a response.

Thank you. Hope we can figure this one out for this model router and others with using the DWA-192 as well.

I wonder if this could be a factor in Windows 10 as well?
"Network Throttling Index
Applies to Windows 7, 8, 10, 2008 Server, and 2012 Server. Setting can be applied using the TCP Optimizer as well.

By default, Windows implements a network throttling mechanism to restrict the processing of non-multimedia network traffic to 10 packets per millisecond (a bit over 100 Mbits/second). The idea behind such throttling is that processing of network packets can be a resource-intensive task, and it may need to be throttled to give prioritized CPU access to multimedia programs. In some cases, such as Gigabit networks and some online games, for example, it is beneficial to turn off such throttling all together for achieving maximum throughput.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Multimedia\SystemProfile
NetworkThrottlingIndex=ffffffff  (DWORD, default: 10, recommended: 10 for media sharing, ffffffff for gaming and max throughput, valid range: 1 through 70 decimal or ffffffff to completely disable throttling)

It is only recommended to change this setting in saturated Gigabit LAN environments, where you do not want to give priority to multimedia playback. Reportedly, disabling throttling can also help reduce ping spikes in some online games."

i use Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, Intel 8265 AC MU-MIMO 867 Mbps, DIR-895L, all latest driver,  and tried this tune :
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-networking/very-slow-200kbsec-file-copy-between-win7-machines/b8736b1b-0a91-4567-ba33-215084ffc906 (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-networking/very-slow-200kbsec-file-copy-between-win7-machines/b8736b1b-0a91-4567-ba33-215084ffc906)

New drivers for the 192:
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=66411.0 (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=66411.0)

Haven't had a chance to test yet.
