Title: Control DSM-510 via web page?
Post by: JRJ on August 07, 2009, 07:50:31 AM
Background:
All my media is on DNS323 running Twonky
My DSM 510 is used for audio & although I have a TV & can display pics I rarely do.
Challenge:
I don't want to have the TV on to listen to music & select/play/pause.  Does/can the DSM-510 have a web-server UI that I could browse to and control the DSM without a TV? ( like NGRC does for MCE)
or:
Can the DNS323's server or Twonky's server on the DNS "push" songs to the DSM, thus allowing me to use the web-server on the DNS to select music to hear in the room with the DSM-510?

If the above can be done, then I would use a wireless web browser like a PSP or a wireless picture frame with web-browser. This would then enable me to control any of my network media players from any room via wifi. My ultimate goal being : Play any song in any room; play any song in every room; control it all from any where in the house/yard without an IR nightmare.

you need SONOS!

Sonos looks good, but appears to be a closed system & I end of tossing my DSM. I think it's possible to achieve the same via UPnP and/or DLNA across multiple vendors with the right pieces of software & hardware.
A side benefit of this will be video and photos, and the use of existing media devices like my PS3 without having a Sonos unit sitting next to it.
I'm interested in any piece of the puzzle; I started this thread to see how I can better use my DSM

I would love to see something like this as well.  I like the D-Link products and do not want to switch to SONOS which only handles music.

An Iphone Remote Controller App would be perfect for me.
