DSC-932L suddenly disconnects from D-ViewCam, IP address issues
« on: February 24, 2017, 07:52:35 PM »

After a long struggle, I finally got my DSC-932L working with D-ViewCam 4.0.5. It was working fine for about 48 hours, then I abruplty started getting "Disconnected" messages. It still works with mydlink.com and I can view live images from it on my tablet. Nothing had been restarted, etc., in between when it was last working and couldn't reconnect. I tried restarting my PC, the router and cycling power on the camera.

When I set up D-ViewCam, I had to manually enter the IP address of the camera (which I got from the Dlink setup program while connected to the camera via an Ethernet cable). The setup program reported the camera's IP address as 192.168.1.114 and that was working fine. Before I could ping the camera, now I can't and get the message:

Reply from 192.168.1.1: Destination host unreachable.

My ipconfig is:
Ethernet adapter Ethernet:
   Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :
   Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . :
   IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100
   Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
   Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

This networking stuff is beyond me, but maybe the above makes sense to someone.

Thanks in advance for your help

What FW version is currently loaded?

Is the camera using a DHCP IP address or a Static IP address?
What is the Mfr and model if the main host router?
Is this the only camera?

I recommend setting a static IP address ON the cameras outside of the main host routers default DHCP IP address pool as a troubleshooting step: 192.168.#.93  DHCP

Thanks so much for your help! The camera was set up for DHCP; setting a static IP address got it back online.

FOR THE NEXT GUY WITH THIS PROBLEM:

The process of setting up a static IP address isn't very straight forward. I tried to do it using the advanced settings link from mydlink, but lost contact with the camera. It wasn't coming back up on mydlink after the change. I had to hook the camera up directly to the router via an Ethernet cable and run the setup wizard to get it reconfigured. I learned the hard way that you need to set it up first as wired, let it connect to mydlink, then go back in with the setup wizard and configure the wireless connection. (This is critical on the initial setup, so that mydlink can upgrade the firmware.)

My router is an older Linksys WRT54GS2. It's configured for WEP security. For some reason, when I went back in to setup wireless, it didn't show my network on the list of available networks. I had to manually enter the network name, select WEP security, etc., to get it configured.

I got the static IP parameters in part from copying what my desktop shows via the command line ipconfig command. The DNS addresses are those used by my router and are Google's DNS servers. My router's DHCP address range starts at 192.168.1.100, so I just picked something below that and hoped that it wasn't already in use. (I don't know how to get a list of IP address that are in use on my LAN; maybe someone knows?)

Here's my camera's IP configuration, etc.:

It's possible that using a Dynamic IP address was working however when the lease expired and the camera go a new IP address, DVC didn't know that the address changed. Static is good to use as this ensures the camera uses the same IP address.

Glad you got it working. Enjoy.
