LED Network Activity
« on: October 30, 2016, 11:23:37 AM »

I purchased the DNR-202L and read that the blue LED indicated network activity. So does this mean it will always be flashing? It seems the recorder is always recording on the drive but not actually leaving any recorded footage unless I setup it up for certain events.
Even if I eject the hard drive (I'm using a flash drive at the moment) and turn off the motion sensing recording the blue LED flashes.

I'm using this recorder with the DCS-2330L and DCS-5020L. Both cameras work great. I read some people had trouble detecting the DCS-2330L but mine was detected instantly and is visible in the apps (mydlink Lite and mydlink View-NVR) and on the web portal.

What FW version do you have loaded currently?

Remove the network cable. Does it stop flashing?  Probably.

I had one plugged in with no drive and network attached - I'm very sure it was constantly blinking.

The FW is 2.04.03 and yes the LED stops flashing and turns solid red. I did take a look at the manual when I was setting it up and it says "traffic" if its blinking. But what traffic are they talking about? At first I thought it was during recording when there is an event triggered or during live view.

Not entirely sure.  I see in manual 1.00 page 62 what you are talking about:

https://images10.newegg.com/UploadFilesForNewegg/itemintelligence/dlink/DNR_202L_MANUAL_1.00_EN1400178412940.PDF

Same in the update manual.

It sounds like if you have a camera setup on the device - it will always flash.

I bet if you remove all cameras, you will see no network traffic and the blue will be ON.

What does the DNR do when you temporarily turn OFF both cameras while leaving the DNR plugged in and connected to the LAN?

I unplugged both cameras and even the unplugged the ethernet cable between the router and modem just to be sure I wasn't getting any internet traffic and it still kept on flashing blue.

This is the least of any of your worries.  Just enjoy it!

I believe the Blue LED is only indication of network connection between the DNR and the main host router, nothing more or less. As RYAY suggested, lets it enjoy it for what it is.  ;)
