DSL 2740B drop line
« on: January 09, 2012, 06:00:18 PM »

Hi ,

I am not sure if this is the right section I should post, but I didn't find any one for DSL 2740B.

I used Bell Canada Internet services before and switched to Teksavvy recently. Then I bought the 2740B.

Recently, the line always dropped from internet and couldn't reconnect. If I use the 2Wire from Bell Canada ( we didn't return yet). The connection is working well.

Here is the logs:

Need to get with the ISP service provider and have then check your phone lines and make sure the Phone lines are in good working condition and the lines are being filtered correctly. They need to make sure the signal on the phone lines are at proper levels. The modem seems to be showing that the modem keeps getting disconnected and re-connected. Start with the ISP first. The modem is only reporting what is going on and is a symptom of the phone lines or data coming from the ISP service.

Hi , Do you have any recommended config? I hope it's a config issue and the link is good with 2Wire Modem(Model + Router), no any drop line.

Thanks,

You have 2 modems on the same line? Or are you just testing a different modem on the same phone line? How are you using the 2740? I presume is the main host modem and router?

Some things to try: Not sure if some of these settings are on the 2740 or not.

Turn off ALL QoS
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay if you have this option.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it.

Thanks for the reply.

I am using the single device (modem+router),  as I didn't return the BELL 2Wire device yet, so I can try, on the same line, using the 2wire , the connection is stable. But if I plug the phone line to DLINK 2740B, the line will be dropped hourly.

I hope it's a config issue and I tried to stop the UPnP service and let 's see this evening if the line is still there.

Ok, I would call up D-Link and see if there is any issues in the configuration of the 2740.

I would also call up the ISP and ask them if this particular model is supported on there network. I've heard that some models are not on various ISP systems. They might have some information regarding this.

Hi,

Can you tell me what's the meaning of the following error?

user         crit   kernel: Line 0: ADSL link down
user         crit   kernel: Line 0: xDSL G.994 training
daemon    crit   syslog: Clear IP addresses. Connection DOWN.
daemon    crit   syslog: Clear IP addresses. PPP connection DOWN.

These logs are from your modem. So DLINK should know how they programmed the embed system.

What is the case that the modem will sent out these error message?

At least, please let me know what's the meaning of "Clear IP Addresses."
Who clear IP Address?

If we split the whole network to 3 parts:
1) my pc to router(2740B)
2) router(2740B) to modem(2740B)
3) modem(2740B) to ISP

please tell me which part is wrong?????????

1) ? 2)? 3)?

Where throws the error message in your code????

Thanks,

Eric

Sounds like the DSL modem is loosing connection with the ISP service. Have you call the ISP and asked them if there seeing anything on there side of the logs?

I have the same issue as yours. Tried and had technicians come down to check the line and all. Now my router box shows that there is DSL, WLAN and Internet connection. When I log into the Dlink setup via browser it EVEN shows that internet is online. Icon at the bottom of my screen is green showing is online.

YET when I try to go to a site, it says "no internet connection"

!!!!help!!!

Are you getting and IP address on your PC?
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.

Try using a different browser like Opera or FF.
Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.

I am connecting the internet with my 2Wire 2701 modem for a week. the connection is very stable and no disconnection issue.

And also I talked with Teksavvy guys to check my line, it's good and they didn't know any issue with DLINK modem, but I am not sure if it's something wrong with DLINK DSL 2740B.

So what should I do next as my retailer won't refund/exchange the modem for me if it's over 31 days.
Thanks,
Eric

I would contact D-link support, maybe level 2 if you can get one and ask for some help.
