Is there a way to whitelist devices? Or blacklist them?
« on: January 18, 2018, 08:57:40 PM »

I can't find any method of MAC filtering. Is there ANY way to filter which devices can connect, or not connect??

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.

Try setting Parental Controls.

There isn't any MAC filtering on new generation D-Link routers.

Parental Controls isn't what I need. I want to block non-approved devices from connecting in the first place.

The manual clearly promises “MAC filtering."

MAC Filtering isn't supported on the 880L. MAC Filtering was found to not be reliable since it can be circumvented.

Are you trying to prevent wireless devices from connecting? If so, you only need to set up wireless SSID name and a Password and only give that to approved users.

MAC filtering is still quite useful for me. It should be left for the user to decide to use it or not.

And again, the manual states that the 880L does support it.

From a security stand point, it's up to D-Link to follow what would be best for there products and I presume since the feature isn't in the FW, it may have been removed at some point or was not included and the Manual needs to be updated.

Are you trying to prevent wireless devices from connecting? Some more details of what you need and what your trying to block, what devices and such, would be helpful...

If the FW doesn't offer features you need. You could check out DD-WRT. The 880L is supported there:

My previous DLink supported MAC filtering and it was very useful for me. I think it is a huge mistake to remove the option for the user to have this feature or not.

I thought this was a bug. If this is not going to be included, then I would prefer to buy a product from a different company that provides it. I want this feature, specifically.

Again, this feature was removed by D-Link in all newer Generation UI routers. MAC addresses can be modified and circumvented which maybe one reason why D-link removed it.

If you need Mac Filtering then you'll need to look at a different Mfr or give DD-WRT a try.

Good Luck.
